How to talk about this hotel...it's hard to say. Hillsdale is a very dinky town and the only thing that brings people there is the college.
We visited the town and stayed at the Center as part of checking out the college as a possibility for my daughter. That being said, the Center is clearly the place to stay if you are visiting the school, just from a convenience stand point. The shuttle that brings prospective students from the airport picks you up and drops you off at the Dow Center. It is smack in the center of campus and is where many campus events are held.
Now for the hotel itself. Not too impressed, frankly. There is lots of exposed brick which is the only charm in the place. The overall atmosphere is that of college dorm rooms. The rooms are large, with a wall desk along one side with plenty of space to do work. But why would you want to? It was dull and dingy and I wanted to spend as little time as possible in there. The plumbing is ancient (the toilet has the stick out handles of public toilets) the bathroom is covered in yellow tile, the shower was tricky to figure out, the towels were a sad dirty beige that were probably white at one time but are now a suspicious grayish color. The bed itself was comfortable enough but I didn't get really clean warm fuzzy feelings (like finding a hair on the pillow that clearly wasn't mine). No signs of bed bugs, though, so that was good.
There is no breakfast, but you can walk across the college quad to the dining hall and pay to eat there.
There is a computer in the lobby where you can print boarding passes for flights out.
The help wasn't very helpful. I couldn't get the TV to work (it was unplugged at both ends, I later discovered) and when i called the desk, he said he would be right down. Never came, but luckily I figured it out myself.
My biggest beef was the clock was set on the wrong time (someone had set the switch to daylight savings time). I just assumed the time was right so was an hour late the next morning...it worked out but this was an irritation.
Lastly, there is literally NOTHING to do in this hotel. We came back to the hotel at 6:30 pm and hunkered down for the rest of the night as there was nowhere to go, nothing to do or eat or see.
I don't mean to sound harsh but we were very happy to scoot out of there. That being said, I would stay there again if my daughter goes to the school (which was awesome!) just because of the convenience. Just don't expect too much.
