“excellent experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

This was a first stay at the grandville location over memorial day weekend in 2013. we stayed one night and had an excellent experience. everything was exception from the moment we checked in until we left. services were outstanding. pool area kept our family of five entertained and relaxed after a busy day in grand rapids. room was standard but very good. contential breakfast had everything we liked. the oak staircase the second floor and sitting room across from the check in desk was a nice and added to the feeling of home. we will visit this hidden gem again!!!

Room Tip: second floor overlooking the pool was excellent.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay over Memorial Day weekend. It is great to know that you and your family enjoyed the pool area it helped keep your family entertained. Our goal is to make our hotel feel like your home away from home and we are glad that you enjoyed our sitting area next to the grand stair case. We hope to have you and your family stay with us again soon. Have a great day!

This was our first stay in the Grandville location as we have stayed in the downtown Grand Rapids locale. Very well maintained property with standard amentities. Very close to shopping and the freeway so easy access to whatever we needed. Bed was comfortable and large walk-in shower was nice. We had a jacuzzi tub which might be why we had such a big shower. My only qualms was the AC unit in our room never blew cold, even when we dropped the temp down to 65. Thankfully it wasn't a hot weekend so we survived. Happy there is a complimentary breakfast, however, I am vegetarian and many of the options were high carbs or meat. Wish there were more lighter food options like fruit or yogurt.

Room Tip: The hotel is tucked around a few corners when you get off the freeway, but conveniently located. Gra...

Stayed here recently on 1 night business trip because my normal Holiday Inn was booked. The location is a little weird as you have to drive thru a residential neighborhood to get to but was pleasantly surprised when I checked in. As you walk in the main lobby there is a little sitting area with fireplace across from check in desk and a big winding wood staircase leading to the 3 floors. Directly ahead is the breakfast area which leads into the pool area. It just had a very country like, charming feel to it and the front desk clerk was very friendly.
Had a 2Q room which was decent size, very clean and the décor was nice and modern. Beds were comfy and had a decent size LED TV with lots of channels to choose from. Room also had a mini fridge and microwave so would be good for a multiple night stay. Complimentary continental breakfast was decent and although I didn’t use the pool, the facilities looked good. Only negative was the hotel was near the expressway so you did hear some road noise but overall a very nice stay and would highly recommend.

We travel from Chicago through Michigan often and the Grand Rapids area is a frequent stopping point. Being big fans of Holiday Inn Express for quick layovers, the one in Grandville has been our choice a number of times. During this trip however I found the room to have a funky, unpleasant smell. I wonder if they had some water damage after the recent heavy rains. Other than that my stay was up to the usual standards.

This hotel had the friendliest staff! When calling and asking questions I spoke to Ben (who also checked us in) and he was so nice and helpful!
We stayed as a volleyball team and had about 10 rooms reserved for one night. Rooms were neat, clean, microwave and had a refrigerator.
Although we weren't there long enough to use the pool, it looked great! So did the hot tub!
Nice breakfast variety. The girls liked making their own pancakes and the cinnamon rolls were SOOO good!
The only negative was the air quality in the room. My daughter has asthma and every time we had the air on (heat or cool) the room started smelling like cigarettes. The staff did offer to change rooms and brought me a bottle of Febreeze to use to calm the smell down at 2:30 am!
I appreciate the adjustment on the room price. From this point forward I will ask to have a room that has always been non smoking.

Room Tip: Ask if room has always been non smoking.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

We recently stayed one night (a Saturday) at this hotel. The Holiday Inn Express in Grandville, is in kind of a strange area, backed up by an older neighborhood. It seemed to be well taken care of and maintained. The parking lot signs stating that you were parking your car at your own risk and tha the hotel was not responsible was a little off putting, so I wasnt sure what to expect. Check in was at 3 and when we arrived just before 4 there were several others checking in. Staff was friendly and efficient. We had a first floor room that was very close to the lobby. It seems that because it was spring break week for a lot of schools, there were a lot of children staying over.
Our room was nicely decorated, spacious and clean. We were very happy with the room. The pool area was very nice but very small relative to the amount of children. The pool area stayed very crowded for our entire stay.
As expected, the halls were very noisy but staff did appear to be doing their best to control the noise.
The breakfast area was very clean and the attendant did a nice job of keeping everything fresh and tidy. The selection included pancakes, eggs, biscuits & gravy, toast bar, cereal, yougurt, milk and juice.
I would not recommend this hotel for a weekend getaway, especially if you want to use the pool or hot tub, however I wouldnt hesitate to stay during the week. The staff was very nice and service was good. This hotel would best be suited for the midweek traveler for business or leisure.

I have stayed in lots of hotels in this price range and this was one of the best. Hotel is clean, breakfast was good. Fresh cookies in the afternoon and the indoor pool/ hot tub area was very nice and looked brand new it was so clean. Guest laundry was an extra bonus. It snowed while I was there and they even swept off my car by 7 am! I would definitely stay there again.
