“Wonderful hotel in a great city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

There is little I could say negative about my experience at the Amway Grand. Truly a classic luxury hotel that has been afforded nothing but the best in improvments and maintenance. Well situated right on a beautiful section of the Grand River, across from the Gerald R Ford Museum and close to all the action in a vibrant city.

Room Tip: Pantlind side is the historic, older rooms with wonderful charm. Tower side is modern with views.

We stayed here while in town for a wedding. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of the room and hotel for the price. We had a beautiful view of the river from our room on the 21st floor. Everything was clean, bathroom looked slightly outdated and worn.
Parking was reasonable, and very easy to find a spot. However, if you have a lot of luggage, the parking ramp to the front desk check-in is QUITE a hike. There was quite a lineup of people at check-in whose rooms weren't ready yet. This was around 3PM, which I think is pretty unacceptable. Our room was fortunately available.
The indoor pool area was beautiful, and a perfect temp. Nice gym, and racquet ball and tennis courts.
The hotel is HUGE- plenty of restaurants too. We tried Ruth's Chris Steakhouse our first night there- the steaks were phenomenal.
Good place to stay with a super location in a great city. Will go back!

Room Tip: As high up as you can go, facing the river

We had booked two nights for an out-of-town wedding. The hotel is beautiful and all of the staff were very friendly. The hotel has some high-end dining choices, which is a treat for us.
Our room was one of the smaller rooms on the floor (they vary in size, so you might want to ask about your square footage).
Overall, the room was good. It could have used a bit of dusting and the bathroom was dinky, but it was comfortable.
Our first night, however, was disrupted by other guests slamming doors, shouting profanities and running down the hallway. Our room was closest to the elevator, so we also heard the elevator music piped in from the overhead speaker near the elevator. Since quiet hours didn't start until midnight, we didn't call to complain until then. I'm not sure if security ever came up, but they did turn off the elevator music. In the morning, around 6:30, more noise from across the hall! (Quiet hours end at 6:00 a.m.).
Luckily, our second night was much better, but the AGPH ought to increase its quiet hours.
It would have been great if the pool hours had been longer as well. I'm not sure why those hours are shorter than most hotels. Maybe if pool hours were extended, the noisy people would have hung out at the pool instead of in our hallway.

Room Tip: Next to the elevator in the "old" 11-story part of the hotel not good for noise. Also chec...

Green Features: They seem to do a great job with environmental practices, including recycling containers in the lobby area near the elevators. Also, their restaurants sort recycling and compostables, according to restaurant staff.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for staying with us and for sharing this important feedback with us. I am glad that you enjoyed the beauty of our hotel and friendliness of our staff, but sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered during your stay. Our quiet hours are from 12 am to 7 am, so I am sorry that this was violated and not enforced when other guests were being noisy at 6 am. We will take your comments into consideration about the pool hours, and consider extending the closing time past 10 pm. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again for a flawless and enjoyable experience. We hope to see you soon!

At your service,

C. Kolehouse

When we got to the hotel, I realized that I left our gift cards and materials that our children purchased for us at home about 150 miles away. It was the spa package. They took care of the problem in about 15 minutes and we were on our way to the room-two hours early. The room was gorgeous and it overlooked the Grand River and Gerald R. Ford Library. They knew in advance that it was our 40th and everyone congratulated us. My wife had an exceptional, deluxe manicure and I had a massage. We then had dinner at Ruth's Chris. Everything about this place is first class. You get what you pay for and you DO pay. But it was our choice. We had a spacious room that was very clean and a comfortable bed. The furniture was done in the period since we were in the Pantlind, the historic part of the hotel, where presidents, princes, queens and famous people stayed. I ejoyed our stay and we were there for their annual Christmas Parade. Pampered is a good word to describe our stay. It was quiet, historic and relaxing in our one night stay.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms overlook air conditionsers and rooftop stuff. Always ask not to be placed next to...

We stay at this hotel every year for a food show that is held in Grand Rapids. The hotel is gorgeous! The staff is absolutely one of the most accomodating we have ever experienced. We always upgrade to a suite for the weekend for a very nominal fee. You just can't go wrong!

Room Tip: The "old" side is beautiful with spacious ceilings, plush carpet and woodwork everywhere...

Beautiful hotel with excellent service. The restaurants in the hotel offer very good food also. Spacious rooms, and they allowed us to check in very early and check out a little late. Nice gym with a good variety of machines. All around a welcoming, clean, lovely environment.

Room Tip: The hotel has an 'old' and 'new' side. I prefer the older hotel - so much class and...

The building is phenomenal. We have stayed on both the new side and the 'old' side. I love the feeling of the older side: 4 post beds, vaulted ceilings... very vintage and charming. The new side is also pleasant: more modern, standard hotel room, but more upscale. The bathrooms are sexy and the environment is relaxing. I recommend a corner room to enjoy the city views. There are several amazing restaurants in the hotel, all of which we have had the luxury to experience. Room service was incredible as well. One of our favorite features is the sunken bar in the lobby. Very classy and unique. There are a couple shops as well. The staff has always been professional as well.

Room Tip: Be sure to specify if you would prefer the newer modern side of the building or the older more shabb...
