“Modern Class”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Stayed for one night on a business trip, and would be open to staying again in the future. The front desk is friendly, the bar/restaurant has good food, and the rooms are clean. The one thing to call out is the rooms are not carpeted. That said, sounds echo... across rooms. Later in the evening another room kept dropping or bouncing something, which ended up sounding like it was in my room. Another miss was the lack of an iron, and an inability to provide one. Outside of these very minor things, it was a very pleasurable stay.

It is a very unique hotel, with European-esque qualities. The room was rather small, which wasn't a big deal for us, but if you're looking for a plush and comfy feel, this isn't it. The room didn't have carpet, which gave it a cold feel, and made it very echo-y. There is a big sliding door for the bathroom, which doesn't provide much in the way of privacy. I had requested a quiet room at check-in, and we were on the 3rd floor in a room overlooking the street (just above the hotel lobby). This room was anything buy quiet, we could hear people on the street (bar crowd) well into the early morning hours, which meant we didn't get much sleep. The room was clean, but sparse. There isn't anywhere to sit besides the bed. The location was great, centrally located in the heart of Downtown, within walking distance to the arena and lots of restaurants/bars.

We used the parking garage (at $16/day) and had issues with the validated tickets they gave us not working to let us out of the garage.

Room Tip: The ones overlooking the front street of the hotel experience lots of street noise.

Front desk so friendly and accomodating. Offered bags of ice and free gatorade even after bar was closed. Were able to check in 2 hours early with no problem or charge. Rooms were picture perfect. Will definately be back.

If you like Ikea, you will like this hotel. The same design aesthetic permeates this boutique hotel. Spare, loft-like rooms with high ceilings; eco-friendly throughout; beautiful bathrooms with modern fixtures and thick, soft towels; the room we were in had big windows overlooking the street below (505); very comfy beds (although a little on the small side); unique layout with the 2 double beds not in the typical next-to-each-other setup; and no carpet, just beautiful clean, dark flooring made from sustainable materials. The service was excellent. The restaurant and bar downstairs also excellent. Great location right in the heart of downtown -- you can walk everywhere. The only negatives were minor: the continental breakfast was pretty sparse (just store-bought mini muffins, fruit, cereal), and parking costs $16 (but all downtown hotels charge similar fees for parking). We will definitely stay here again. A great alternative to more "typical" hotels. I loved the vibe, comfort, and service of CityFlats!

Room Tip: Ask for a city-view room for large windows and a great view.

Great chic hotel tucked in the happening district of Grand Rapids...great bar, lobby and service was the best...very helpful front desk staff, streamlined check-in, unbelievably great value during Art Fest, high-volume reservation time.

If your tastes run to ultra modern euro style, this is the hotel for you. We stayed for a midweek conference so only spent one night but were very comfortable and well looked after. Rooms are simply furnished - no overstuffed sofas or chairs here. The floating platform bed is the only cushy spot in the room, and dramatically underlit. The bath is beautiful. If you're staying for a few days, please note that hangers are the only clothes storage option. And if you don't like the idea of padding around on the non-carpeted floor in your bare feet, bring slippers. We happen to be very comfortable in this environment and we'd return in a heartbeat. The location is within walking distance to the Devos Center and great restaurants. The continental breakfast was a bonus. Parking is a little tricky and not obvious, but the desk clerk was very helpful. All in all, a great Grand Rapids option.
