This is a very nice bed and breakfast on a beautiful property. I stayed at Peaches in November for a girl-friend get away weekend. At this time of year (on a weekend) the Inn was virtually empty.
Peaches is a large Georgian-style brick home that is beautifully maintained. The house appears to have little wear and tear for a 90 year old house. The present owners are only the third family to occupy it--and it shows!
This B&B is located in the Heritage Hills part of town which is within walking distance to downtown Grand Rapids. Peaches gets a lot of business travelers. As a result, they are conscious of the need to read people to see if they would like to chat or would like to be left alone. They are very easy going hosts and seem to accept the difficult aspects of running a B&B as just part of the business. They achieve this delicate balance and still manage to treat clients as if they are a guests of the family. At the same time, they clearly know that they need to leave people alone too. In my mind this is the best kind of hospitality for a B&B.
The property is beautifully maintained and is tastefully renovated. The house is very uncluttered (although not sparse) and achieves a non-frou frou style that is too often characteristic of B&Bs that try to achieve a "romantic" decor. This is definitely an Inn where a male business traveler could stay without choking on chintz or frills. Each of the rooms has an en suite bathroom, although it appeared as if two of the rooms shared an adjoining bathroom. The common areas are large and beautifully decorated as well.
In terms of room selection, guests may suggest rooms that they prefer, but they are not guaranteed as the hosts reserve the right to shuffle rooms according to the needs of their census. This was fine by me as all the rooms (except maybe one) was decorated in a very fine style.
Breakfast is a cooked breakfast, usually eggs or some sort of pancakes. Ours was very nice.
A word of warning: if you do not like dogs, then you should probably stay some where else. The owners have two well behaved Dalmatians (one is a mix) in residence and the dogs great guests. If you like dogs then this is not an issue as they are adorable and well behaved. If you don't like dogs then you need to choose another place. They will keep the dogs away from your room and the breakfast room, but they will not lock them up for the weekend.
I highly recommend this B&B over any other hotel in Grand Rapids. I wouldn't recommend Grand Rapids as a destination in general, but if you must be there, the Peaches is a fine choice of accommodations.
