“wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

Ann and Frank are wonderful hosts! The Dolphin House is a lovely clean place to stay . The view from the dining room is beautiful. Ann made delicious breakfasts and was very knowledgeable about the area. We received some great information about places to visit in the area. One of the most interesting was Joey's museum. Great place to get the history of the Harbor's whaling and place in WWII.

After returning from a local excursion, I booked a room in the Dolphin House B&B as it seemed to be a good value with rooms starting at $65/night and had good reviews of the water. The location was decent and a short drive from the Highway. The main house was clean, although being an open floor plan and all wood it made it VERY noisy. I booked the cheapest room - advertised for $65/night. There were makeup stains on my pillow cases, there were only blinds covering one window and no way to shut out the light from the other large window or skylight. There is also a hole cut in the wall facing the main living area with a wooden door you can close that gives absolutely no buffer for sound. There was only one couple and the hosts in the living area sharing wine for several hours until I finally had to ask them when the "quiet hour" was because as I was trying desperately to sleep the noise level was like they were standing next to me. I would definitely have expected more courtesy, but at least when I finally said something they quieted down. The next morning at check out, I was charged $70, not the $65 that is on the website or on the walls in the house itself. Not a big deal - but out of principal, you should charge the rate you advertise. I would definitely not be interested staying there again.

This is my kind of bed and breakfast. As soon as Andrew and Jeanne greeted me with warm smiles as I checked in, I knew I'd like this place. It's a beautiful home but the bedrooms are small and simple. No complaints; there's lots of space in the shared living room and kitchen. The waterfront house has a great view of Quatsino Sound. In the unlikely event you tire of that, you can also admire Andrew's sculptures. Coal Harbour is a great base for boating and fishing, exploring the West Coast logging roads and beaches, or just to visit the Port Hardy area. And Dolphin House – thanks to its helpful, friendly hosts – is a great place to stay.
