This isn't just a lighthouse and pier. It's connected to a wonderful wide Boardwalk! At one end are the boat docks and Temptations Ice Cream with Michigan's famous Hudsonville ice-cream. And its also close to downtown Grand Haven, with lots of unique shops to explore.
So with ice-cream cone in hand, walk to the lighthouse and pier along the channel. Watch the boats coming in and out next to you. Stop to rest on new benches installed along the way. Walk out on the pier. You can push a stroller the whole way. Watch the fishermen catching fish off the side of the pier. If you come at sunset, you are in for a wonderful and amazing view!
Yes there are windy days where the waves are wild and crashing over the pier. Fun to watch surfers or kite surfers on those days, or take pictures of the huge waves crashing! Those days aren't good for walking out there, but that is rare.
We walk the boardwalk round trip for the excellent exercise. It's about 45 minutes round trip depending on how fast you walk. In summer, there is a Farmer's market on Weds and Sat morning at the end of your walk near the boatdocks.
Grand Haven is an amazing town to visit!
