We have been to this beach 2 different times. We find it to be very clean and with a lot of nice features. There are volleyball nets, playgrounds, food trucks, bathhouse, etc. It is near the downtown area and has a beach campground too- but we haven't done that part.
This is a nice beach for families and anyone who doesn't mind a lot of people.

(8/16/15) I arrived by bicycle to tent camp overnight while touring the breweries in Grand Haven and Spring Lake. I used the DNR website to make my reservation, and it works great! They even had pics online of several of the sites themselves. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and I was directed to my site. Large site (#117) right up against a dune hill, near the channel. The campground is family friendly, and people seemed generally respectful of the 10pm quiet hours, but many were mystified as to how to get to the pier, and cut through my site because it was only occupied by a bike + tent: not cool. The next morning I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the restroom facility was very clean, and large clean showers as well! The park is so close to downtown I'm not sure there is another state park with such a convenient location. The pier was directly over the grass covered dune hill behind my site, and the view from the top of the sunset was beautiful! I would give this park my highest recommendation, but the people cutting thru my site were annoying to say the least. Still, I look forward to staying here again, and It is very much worth the money!

as the title suggests, this place is an amazing location for anyone that wants to enjoy lake michigan. beautiful, clean beaches, FRESH WATER, and fluffy sand. water can be slightly chilly depending on the weather, but people come from all over the state to enjoy beautiful downtown Grand Haven and the state park.

First time visiting the park. Like that it was very clean and orderly on the grounds. Big concession stand and restroom areas. The only thing I didn't see were grills. I didn't check to see if it was allowed on the park but I did not see anyone grilling. A few picnic tables here and there but not throughout. Huge area for RV and motorhomes and their own restroom facilities close to the pier. All in all had a good time and would go back again.

Upon arrival at Grand Haven State Park we were very disappointed. It's nothing but a parking lot on Lake Michigan. Two big criticisms: (1). The campsites are too close together. There are so many big rigs these days we were squeezed in between our neighbors. The sites need to be re- designed. (2). The signage is horrible. We had difficulty finding the entrance which is poorly marked. Signs in the campground are printed on only one side. You can't see where to go until you are passed. There are few areas where dogs are allowed. While the view of the lake is nice, we'll never go back.
