Hotel flags are supposed to represent something in the way of quality and consistency in a brand, but Rodeway Inn, is an exception to that concept. For a Choice Hotel, this just doesn’t cut it.
If you’re going to compete with the big boys, you better be wearing big boy pants, and the only thing this hotel has going for it is that it’s located in a destination city. Other than that, they ought to lower their rates, surrender the Choice Hotel flag, and consider razing what’s there and starting over again.
This place is right out of the 1950s in design, and you’d probably expect that from a ma and pa place in “No-Place Ville”, Michigan. It broke my heart to have to pay $150 a night at this hotel after seeing the Holiday Inn Grand Haven on the water in Spring Lake… they were full and I had missed the better accommodations and competitive rate by some extremely bad timing.
A word about the proprietors of Rodeway; it appears to be family operated and to give them their due, they were lovely folks and very accommodating, only I couldn’t rid myself of the notion in my mind that they all should have been wearing masks, even the little ones…as in the kind of mask that bank robbers wear when they go to work. I know… that’s not very flattering, but I’m still stinging from the rates I forked over for my room… I can’t help it.
Okay, enough. I won’t get caught like this again.
