My husband and I were so excited to enjoy a date night and venture out for dinner. We did not have reservations and were told the wait would be about an hour to be seated outside but they had immediate outdoor seating. I explained that we would be fine waiting and would love to have a few drinks while waiting. We went to the bar and waited and waited for the bartender to make eye contact. This is not a big place and it was apparent the bartender was purposely avoiding us. My husband finally secures his attention and the bartender asked, "how can I help you?" I requested a wine list, while my husband asked for a beer. Knowing we were waiting for a dinner table, the bartender responded, "Lets see...where are you planning on sitting?" He refused to serve us any drinks unless we were seated at a table outside. I had to explain that I wasn't interested in sitting outside with Mosquitos and dropping, cool temperatures. He would not serve us drinks! Serving drinks is how a bar / bartender makes money, so what is wrong with this picture? Everything! I have experience working at some of the best restaurants in Boston and New York, and was shocked and disgusted with the condescension and lack of customer service we were given. We left without dinner or drinks and I can assure you, we will never return to this establishment. I am positive the food isn't that special where they need to be selective and exclusionary. I will venture a little further into Traverse City for a fantastic experience at Trattoria Stella and skip the small town, big attitude at the Homestead.
