“Excellent Italian cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

We were here for a winter getaway and the veal was incredible. Tender, flavorful, and well prepared. There aren't a lot of tables here so I highly recommend a reservation. We enjoyed it and look forward to a return trip.

“Excellent Italian food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

This rather plain countryside restaurant serves delicious Italian food. What it lacks in ambiance it makes up in food and service.

“Our Favorite Venue on Glen Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

This is perhaps my favorite place in the Glen Arbor/Glen Lake area. I tend toward any of their pesto dishes, which are lovely. Our top favorite on the menu is "Anniversary Chicken", always perfectly prepared with chicken, asparagus, under a lightly broiled sauce and cheese. Superb! We always share a Funistrada tiramisu for dessert - light and flavorful, one of the best anywhere! A small and reasonably priced wine list, with some lovely Italian reds. It can be noisy if you are in the middle of the room, but is a friendly, cozy atmosphere. Two well placed tables by the bar are sometimes available, which are both cozy with a view over the room. On summer weekends, make you reservations week or two in advance on summer weekends. Summer weekdays also require advance reservations - as much as a week depending on the time. Seasonal fall dishes include pumpkin pasta or squash sauces. Open year round. Especially cozy in winter.

“A Bit Pricey, But Overall a Good Option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Let's be honest, dining options in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area are a bit limited, but if you're willing to fork over a few dollars, Funistrada is an attractive choice. Our group of four dined there on July 8th, and we each walked away with the same opinion: the food is very good, but the prices are more in line with one might expect when dining in an urban area like Chicago or Detroit. Total tab for our party was $135 before gratuity. The menu was varied, offering classic favorites as well as some interesting alternatives that featured locally produced ingredients. Service was courteous and prompt, and our food arrived piping hot after a reasonable wait. We visit Glen Lake every year and stay, literally, 100 yards from the restaurant, so it's perhaps surprising that we haven't ventured in for a meal sooner (the restaurant has been open for 13 years now). I have no doubt well return.
