“Wonderful spa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Amazing from start to finish. Loved everything about it. The spa is amazing and the therapist are very professional and highly skilled. The spa is very clean and well looked after. Our treatments were exceptionally good and we have been to a lot of spas.
Mr Fred's food was also wonderful. We are going back ASAP. Would highly recommended. Can't fault it at all.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

We booked a Travelzoo deal to which we added a programme of spa treatments to give us a luxurious, pamper break. We were assigned a room in the Manor as requested, but unfortunately when we opened the door it either hadn't been serviced or was already occupied. A quick call to reception put this right with a thousand apologies, and apart from a wait to check out that was the only problem we encountered with our stay.

The room was sheer luxury and full of character, having a heavenly bed and wonderful bathroom with old-fashioned bath and walk-in shower. The spa treatments that we had pre-booked were professional and relaxing, and literally a stones throw from our room. We were well and truly chilled out for the evening.

Dinner at Mr Fred's was certainly nice, but there was little atmosphere and we felt that there could have been better use of local produce. The cheese board was fine, but nothing was identified. Were any of them local cheeses? If so we didn't know, and if not then why not? Our steaks were fine, but we have had much better. Breakfast was absolutely gorgeous, but similarly were they just sausages, bacon and black pudding or were they actually local ""XX Farm Sausages" which we could have gone out of our way to purchase during our trip?

All in all a super, relaxing break that was made affordable by the Travelzoo deal, but we just felt that the chef could have made a bigger deal of the individuality of the hotel and the availability of quality ingredients at its location. It is certainly not cheap even with the offer, but we considered it to be value for money and we would certainly return.

Thank you for taking the time out to review your recent stay with us. Chef is aware of your constructive feedback regarding the use and advertisement of local produce. So pleased that you found us through the Travelzoo promotion and that you really liked your Manor House room and your time in the spa. Apologies that you had been given the key to an unserviced room in error but I'm pleased that this was quickly rectified for you. Looking forward to welcoming you back again very soon.

We held a family party here in March, the theme was Im not a celebrity - get me out of here.
The room, venue was fantastic and the staff couldnt have been more helpful.
There was a slight problem with the bar - the hand pulled beer pumps hadnt been tested and the staff didnt know how to sort it - but along came an experienced manager and all was ironed out. I thought the food was salty, we had lamb hot pot and chicken curry, but others thought it was OK.
We provided our own entertainment and music and the hotel was fine with the suggestions. The Creepy Crawlie Road Show was amazing, the management were a little bit twitchy about the content, (spiders, lizards and cockroaches) but they'd nothing to worry about, the animals were very well cared for, and John is an excellent presenter of the show.
Drinks were a bit pricy, but only to be expected for this fantastic venue - all in all we had a fatastic night.

Room Tip: We had room 16, fantastic views, amazing bathroom and the decor was very beautiful.

It was a pleasure to host such a unique party and I'm so pleased that you had a great evening. Our new Woodland rooms have been receiving great reviews from our guests and I'm glad that you agree. Apologies for the small issue with the bar but I'm glad to hear that this was resolved swiftly. Maybe next time you visit us you can enjoy our new spa facilities.

Let's be clear - this place isn't "cheap" or a "bargain" but it is a superb country house style hotel with excellent spa facilities and amazing food.
The rooms in the old 17th century manor house are unique and full of character. The spa is modern and tastefully designed with many treatment options available.
Dinner in the Grill On The Hill is first class - really tasty food, prompt service and delightful surroundings.

You pay for all of this of course but treat yourself - it's worth it.

we stayed at the hotel on a travel zoo deal and what a deal..we had a room in the woodland suite, quality furnishings, bed comfortable, room spotless, comfy sofa, small fridge with complimentary water and milk in a jug. The floor to ceiling window overlooking the beautiful countryside was a delight. Meal in Mr Freds food delicious and well presented. Staff really helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was delightful, Full English was really good, also other choices available. Couldn't fault the service or staff really made our stay a happy one. The piece de resistance was the Spa. The place is high quality, facilities excellent and the staff were brilliant extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Room 20 is next door to the Spa this was a plus for us. This hotel is definitely worth a visit and I would highly recommended it.

We got married at Stanley House in July 2012 - from the initial meetings with the hotel staff through to the wedding itself, we couldn't have asked for more. The attention and service from all the staff was amazing, the hotel itself is sumptuous, decorated in a great mix of the old and the new, the food was stunning and the recent addition of the Woddlands suite meant that nearly all of our guests could stay there and everyone loved the place. We've booked to go back to celebrate our first anniversary and can't wait!

Room Tip: There aren't any bad rooms here. We booked all but one room and the feedback from our guests wa...
