“Better Service Please!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

Excellent food-kind of expensive-salads getting smaller-service very slow and many people running around not knowing what to do. Could not find anyone to seat us-looked like they were training someone to make expresso. The girls never looked up to noticed a line gathering-sure hope they are ready for the summer tourists. We had 2 salads and a small pizza. Service slow-

“Allegan County's Best Kept Secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

Located just five miles away from the beaches and sand dunes of Saugatuck & Douglas in MI is Allegan County's best kept secret: a small and unassuming restaurant in the middle of Fennville called "SALT OF THE EARTH." The restaurant was suggested to me by a local resident of Saugatuck who suffers from gluten-related issues as I do. I have been to several restaurants around the touristy areas of Allegan County, but nothing compares to the delicious gluten-free and Paleo-friendly menu concoctions they have at this restaurant. True to their name, the restaurant prides itself in serving only locally sourced and sustained meats, veggies and ingredients. I refuse to make any suggestions as to what to order since I have been back there several times and have yet to figure out which one is my favorite dish. Every menu item that I've sampled and ordered is simply superb. If you are headed to Saugatuck & Douglas for a weekend get-away, this restaurant is not to be missed. If you want to experience the perfect date night at this restaurant, ask for CYNTHIA to be your server. :)

“We drive an hour for this food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

Have been going to this place for about a year now. It is far from home for us, but their fresh, homemade bread and wonderful food keep us driving. Have tried numerous items on the menu and have not been disappointed. I have had "iffy" drinks there but I now avoid their specialty drinks and am satisfied. Last year, service was terrible, but we kept getting the same waitress. She appears to have found different employment. Bread and Bar in Benton Harbor has tried to mimic their menu and has failed terribly. Avoid that restaurant under 10 miles from us and drive to Salt of the Earth if I want carmelized brussel sprouts or steak or pork belly. Uh...yum!

“We Wish this restaurant was in our home town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

We took a mini vacation over Memorial Day weekend and traveled from Cleveland to Saugatuck. I did some research on restaurants nearby and we are SOOO glad we found out about Salt of the Earth!!! This place exceeded our expectations in every way. It opens at 5pm and by the time we arrived at 6:30 it was packed with quite the line of people waiting for a table. We got lucky and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar. The bartenders were quick efficient and super pleasant and working their butts off!! We decided to get the sausage flatbread and a salad to split. It was by far the best pizza we have ever had. The bread board with butter, salt & cracked pepper was DELICOUS. Everything was so fresh. It was definately one of our favorite dining experiences yet, we just wish it was in Cleveland and not Michigan!! We would be regulars for sure. I want to go back and try everything on their menu!
