“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

We have stayed here quite a few times over the years. The rooms are large the beds are comfortable the breakfast is great. It is in a quiet rural setting and there's a nice little babbling brook outback--if you stay in the carriage house and leave your back door open you can hear the brook. Marci is the perfect host. You are within a mile of the Rowe Inn --a great place to eat.

We have been to a lot of B&Bs and I have to say this is definitely our favorite one. House on the Hill is a sight to behold! Whether we were sitting on the beautiful porch enjoying the breathtaking views of the lake while sipping a glass of wine or relaxing to the sounds of the babbling brook, our visit could not have been more perfect. Marci and Phil are wonderful hosts. They are very warm and welcoming, as was Marci's mom who makes the worlds best jams! They are also very knowledgeable about places to see and restaurants to eat at. They were spot on in all of their recommendations. We took advantage of the beautiful weather and had a picnic down on the beach (thanks to Marci) then went canoeing in the picturesque lake where we had the unique opportunity to see a bald eagle flying above us. To describe Marci's 3 course breakfasts as amazing is an understatement. Each one was made from scratch and raved over by everyone at the table. They provide you with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable, from paddle boards and kayaks, to a canoe and even lent my husband a fishing pole. We walked the groomed trails on their gorgeous 53 acre wooded property and saw deer and even a whooping crane! We stayed in the Maple Room in the Carriage House and it was perfect! We loved our room, it was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated as is every room in the house. We sat on our back porch and listened to the sounds of nature all around us while the stress of the week just melted right off our shoulders. The 24 hour coffee, snack, and beverage bar was such a nice treat, along with the homemade baked goods that showed up magically each afternoon. The location of the B&B is such a plus as well. We were just a short drive to Charlevoix and Boyne City, and we even spent an afternoon at Fisherman's Island State Park and enjoyed the beach along Lake Michigan's shoreline. There is so much to see and do if you want to explore, yet it's also a perfect place to relax and take in all the peaceful beauty that surrounds you. It really is a little peace of heaven and we can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Every room is lovely in both the main house and Carriage House. I would highly recommend the Maple...

We couldn't have selected a finer Bed and Breakfast to combine use of a gift certificate from our kids, with some mid-week Spring Morel hunting. Having never been here before, we weren't sure what to expect, but The House on The Hill certainly met and exceeded all the amenities listed on this website. Location is peaceful and gorgeous. House and bedrooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. View from the front porch while sharing a bottle of wine was wonderful. Even did some Morel hunting on their spacious property. Marcie was a great hostess and left no needs unmet, including a 24 hr. snack/coffee area, a gourmet breakfast, and pleasant conversation. We definitely plan to recommend this to family and friends and will be back.

Room Tip: We saw no rooms to avoid.

Phillip and Marci were very gracious, welcoming and accommodating host and hostess during our recent stay at the House on the Hill. There was no pretentiousness; my husband and I were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. They also include a lot of thoughtful touches that make your stay that much better--fresh baked cookies, a 24-hour snack and beverage area, etc. Marci was also a co-conspirator--assisting my husband in pulling off several anniversary surprises. The property, views, babbling brook and lake are amazing. We were lucky enough to spot a bald eagle less then a few miles away. Marci is a talented cook and her breakfasts were incredible. It was a perfect weekend retreat.

Room Tip: The "Maple" had a fireplace and a back door that when opened allowed you to listen to the...

Perched on a small hill overlooking a picturesque lake, this B&B was all that we could ask for. Celebrating my 70th birthday, my wife and I were treated to a spacious room with all the amenities that one would ever need. The room was bright and cheery and very clean. Downstairs was a newly remodeled area containing a 24 hour coffee-maker, snacks, cold drinks, and of course the freshly baked cookies.

The breakfast was prepared by Mandi, the proprietor, who is and has been quite an accomplished chef. My wife was particularly taken with the scrambled eggs, which she announced were the best that she had ever eaten. Most of the breakfast items were made on site, including the jam which was made by Mandi's Mom.

We can recommend without any hesitation this off-the-beaten-track B&B.

Room Tip: Two rooms with king beds have a view of the lake.

We've been staying at this bed and breakfast for 10 years. It's under new ownership, but the ambience has only gotten better. Lots of recreational opportunities and, weather permitting, sitting on the porch sipping wine is unbeatable. Philip and Marcie are just great people. Comfortable rooms (recommend the Rose room). We combine a stay here with dinner at The Rowe just across the road. One of the best French country restaurants in the state and with an extensive wine list.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the house and then rooms behind the house. All are very nice, but we like staying...

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at The House on the Hill and had a truly wonderful experience! We were instantly greeted upon arrival and were shown around by Marci, such a kind lady! The house is really clean and has a super cozy feel to it. The beds are really comfortable! They really thought of everything.. toiletries, extra blankets and pillows, a heating blanket, stocked snacks and drinks for anytime in the utility room, a plate of cookies on the table all day for us.. really paid attention to small details that make the stay so much more comfortable and enjoyable. The breakfast was amazing! Such talented cooks! I really can't say enough good things about this place! I highly recommend staying here! Pefect for romantic getaways, family vacations or if you just need a few nights to relax for yourself :)
