We went to this hotel (which is no longer a holiday inn) to seek refuge from a terrible storm that had flooded our camp site. What I got was worse then sleeping in water. The room smelled like cat urine. The cable was out and the bath tub was dirty. I woke with bug bites all over my body. I did not get one bite camping but had twenty eight bites the night I stayed in this hotel! I went to the desk manager and she wanted to comp my room but the hotel managers said no. They said they would pay for me to go to an ER for medical treatment but would not take anything off the room. How ridiculous is that....spend my day and waste my time as well as waste insurance money to sit in the ER for bug bites. I don't know if they are Flea bites or bed bugs but I do know that I was miserable for two weeks with them. Don't stay here...sleep in your car instead.

I've been a guest at this hotel for a number of years, from it's opening as a Holiday Inn until this latest weekend, with it's present proprietors.
While we were out for the evening, the local police threatened to have my boat trailer towed away because the city property adjacent to the hotel would be occupied by a farmer's market that Saturday.
When the Owner realized that I wasn't on the property, he took it upon himself to manually relocate the trailer to a spot on his property. When I returned to my room, a message was waiting and I learned of the activity.
How many hotels would have simply shrugged at this problem?
And, no extra charges or fees for his service.
This hotel is an excellent resort for families and corporate gatherings. The beach and dock facilities are fantastic and the staff is very friendly (especially in the lounge).

This hotel was supposed to be a Holiday Inn but we found that it was not anymore. We found the room had no working phone, when we wanted to report that the windows were dirty. We found used towels in the bathroom, which did not smell right. When we brought this up to the owner, who reacted unproessionally and after a couple of minutes of describing the issues, she gave us a 10 dollar courtesy discount.

This hotel is now called Tawas Bay Beach Resort, with new owners. We made our reservation in January, 2006 and received a written confirmation. Before we arrived, we knew the property was no longer a Holiday Inn. Because we were staying with a group, we were assured our reservation was secure. However, the front desk (and manager) refused to honor the rate quoted on the written confirmation, saying they were no longer a Holiday Inn. Granted, the rate difference was very minimal, but still it seemed like a matter of courtesy and policy. What good is a written confirmed rate if the hotel won't honor it?

It looked like parts of the hotel had been updated--newer carpet, lobby furniture, linens, etc. Large breakfast buffet was included with the room. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was good and the function banquet dinner was excellent.

Staff was pleasant and we would probably stay here again. Lovely setting overlooking Tawas Bay.
