Both my husband and I really enjoyed this hotel.

The employees were incredibly nice and helpful from the beginning of our trip to the very end. The first person we met was the porter. He reminded my of that wonderful porter, LaMar, in the movie That Thing You Do. When my husband realized late at night after the stores had closed that he had left his cell phone charger at home and desperately needed to have his phone charged for an important meeting the next day, the concierge found a charger that matched my husband's cell phone. The driver of the shuttle was informative, a great driver, and extremely kind.

The Restaurant, Fishbones, which is attached to the hotel, is an absolute must! The service is only second to the delicious food. You HAVE to try the Jambalaya!!! OMG!!!

The room was spacious and cozy at the same time, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable as well as beautiful. The only downside to the room was the amount of towels left. There's a very deep and inviting tub, so if you decided to indulge yourself before going to bed, you won't have a dry towel for the morning unless you call and request one.

This was one of the best experiences (other than the Westin and the Hyatt in Hawaii) that we have had at a hotel. Highly recommend it!

I reviewed this hotel a few months ago and this review is pretty much the same. The hotel is beautiful, clean and nice. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The only problem that we had is that we had separate cars and no one told us that they only validate one car for valet per room. When i found out that it was $20 to park, I was a little mad because I could have parked at Greektown for free, since we came to gamble for my friends 50th birthday.
When I argued with the front desk, he split the difference with me, so I ended up paying $10. I was satisfied with that. I just wish I would have known this up front. Especially when they saw us come in two cars when we pulled up to valet. Oh well, everything else was great there!

Stayed at the Atheneum for two nights and it is a very nice hotel - nice rooms, clean, comfy beds, good location and most importantly it has FREE Wi-Fi. The downsides are the workout room- old cardio equipment, no weights, noise from traffic and people on the streets is annoying (we were on 9th floor and it definitely kept me awake), there's no swimming pool if you are interested in that; we didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, Fishbones, but some friends that did said it was the worst meal they had experienced in awhile. Not really aware of any place nearby to a get a bagel and a cup of coffee in the a.m.- there are lots of Greek restaurants just outside the door of the hotel. We enjoyed Pegasus Tavern and Papalis Pizza. I am not really sure why anyone would want to go to Detroit-other than to see the Lions or the Tigers, and this hotel is within a few blocks of the stadiums. There is nothing in downtown Detroit except some Casinos.

We stayed for a convention at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center because we wanted a smoking room and it seems all the Marriott's have become non-smoking. The hotel was very nice, the suites were amazing; felt like an apartment. Very clean, beds were extremely comfortable.

The most impressive feature was the hotel staff they were very friendly and very helpful about how to navigate Detroit since we had never been there before. All of the shuttle drivers were very nice and one in particular, Tony was top of the line. They drove us anytime we requested to the Marriott however we also rode the People Mover for the experience.

The only two negatives were the cost of food at the attached Fishbone was a little high but it is the city so I guess it's to be expected. Also the maid service did not show to clean our room until 5:00 that evening and as we were back for the day went without.

We had no problems with paper thin walls as I saw in other ratings and slept quite well.
