“Day rooms available for long layovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2009

We decided to stay in the Westin hotel when we realized that we had a long layover (over 8 hours). The easy access from the Detroit airport was very convenient. Checkin was easy and the room was very nice. The beds were extremelly comfortable, I would love to have one at home! We had to check out before 6:30pm because we booked the room for the day instead of the night but that allowed us enough time to exit through their private security check point. It was very nice to have a short line to reenter the busy airport. Overall a very nice hotel, quiet during the day and we enjoyed our stay.

Stayed overnight during two days of business meetings. Being at the airport was very convenient for either driving of flying in. I could occasionally hear jets take off in the background (while in my room), but only as part of the background noise and didn't hear a thing overnight. In the conference rooms it was easy to forget we were right next to the airport terminal.

The service at the hotel was at all times very friendly and professional. When looking for a meeting room, I was personally escorted there by a member of the staff. Every member of the staff greeted me every time, and it was sincere (not just a muttered "hi" under their breath, rather was looking at me with a friendly face and cheery "hello."

The food was also excellent, although pricey (as would be expected). It was worth it.

As I didn't fly in or out, it wasn't necessary to take advantage of the check-in and security gates, but I could still appreciate the monitors in the lobby displaying flight information, the check-in kiosks and security being so conveniently located in the hotel, as this was important for several others who attended our meeting and had much to do with why it was ultimately held here.

Arguably up there with the Hyatt Regency at DFW. BIG rooms. Great restaurant. And if you want to shop or eat in the terminal, they get you in and through security on some kind of pass.

We attended the Great Lakes Regional Music Festival over the past weekend at this hotel and couldn't have been more pleased.
The staff, the room, the service and the amenities all exceeded our expectations.
The hotel was most accomodating to all of the attendees. The kids had a great time.
Being attached to the airport was neat for the kids to watch the planes.

We will definitely attend again next year.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2009

My husband and I recently stayed at the Westin (april 8th, 2009) We had missed a connection in Houston and got into Detroit around 11 PM, we had planned transportation to get back to East Lansing on the Michigan Flyer, but missed the last bus. We decided to stay @ the Westin since it was in the airport and right where our pick up location would be for the bus the next day. Upon entering we were impressed with how clean the hotel was. My husband grabbed the bellboy cart and loaded up our luggage to make the decent trek from the airport entrance to the check in desk. Check in was simple but I was NOT impressed with the price. $309 to stay for 8 hours!!!! The same person that checked us in took the cart from my husband to take us to the room. When he took it our luggage came flying off (mind you luggage that contained glass and other breakables) He then proceeded to blame my husband for the fall since we were the ones to stack the luggage in the first place. I only thought "How rude!" We had managed the luggage just fine up to that point. The room was very nice, the king bed was just what we were looking forward to after a long delayed trip. However there were tags on EVERYTHING in the room. My husband was afraid to touch anything since you'd get charged for using or consuming the various articles in the room. Sleep was great on the "heavenly bed" no complaints there. Got up with enough time to grab something to eat, but after spending over $300 didn't feel like spending another $20 on a continental breakfast. Unfortunately, unless you are entering the airport terminal there is little to no other option for breakfast. At checkout we asked for the use of the bellboy cart again to help with the trek back to the front of the airport entrance, the man checking us out told us "No, since he was the one that would have to push the cart." we were so done with this stuck up place.
Overall: Great bed if you are in need of someplace to rest your weary head and stretch your body after travel. Great location....if you're willing to pay the price!!! Let's just say, lesson learned" Next time we will stay at the Hampton or Crowne Plaza across the street and pay half the price and get FREE continental breakfast!

This hotel was a breeze from beginning to end. It's beautiful inside the hotel itself and the rooms. Very modern, very clean, well decorated, just luxurious. The staff bend over backwards to help you and every aspect of your stay seems really considered. The food is very pricey but very good. I was amazed to get this room booked online through their website for a mere $117 per night including tax. However no free internet $10 per night and also the food jacks the price up a bit, and they charge you for baggage handling, fed exing, and toll free phone calls. However I would definitely stay there again. Really a great hotel and the beds and pillows are wonderful!

We recently stayed at the Westin Detroit after arriving to town late at night. We have stayed here several times (either before an early flight out from Detroit or after a late flight into Detroit). The rates are quite reasonable (especially on weekend nights), the service is great, and the location is ideal. The hotel is connected to the Northwest Airlines terminal (there is a special security check entrance from the hotel). They gave us a room that overlooked the tarmac. It was really fun to watch the operation of the airport as the planes came in and out of the gates. We highly recommend staying at this hotel when you need to be at the Detroit airport at an odd hour.
