“$200 million dollars so well spent!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

This property is the shiny new jewel of downtown Detroit. They took a hundred year old building that had been closed for thirty years and completely redid it. The result is a lux historic hotel that is worth the trip.

It is a historic hotel but with the Westin name and furnishings has turned into an updated, elegant, hip property. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Well appointed guestrooms with Westin's Heavenly Bedding and Showers. Very nice. Huge living room/bar off the lobby that is a great place to spend an afternoon. Food and beverage offerings are first rate.

Greek Town and the ball parks are within walking distance. It's the best place to stay right now in downtown Detroit.

Room Tip: Upper floors yield nice views of downtown. Rooms at the end of the halls are particularly nice.

Really didn't know what to expect. I haven't been in Detroit for years, especially right downtown. Great first impression. Speedy and attentive valet service for the car. Quick check in (note: reception is on the second floor). Room was huge (we had 2 double beds). Modern, clean, great bathroom with rain head shower. Toiletries were wonderful. Large closet. Comfy beds with lots of pillows. Only complaint was that the electrical outlets were few and far between, with awkward access. Couple of power strips would fix that. Requests to the front desk were responded to quickly. Had a view, tiny, of the river with Windsor on the other side. Room was very quiet. Had no noise from adjacent rooms or hall movement.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. If you hadn’t been to Downtown Detroit in quite a while, you certainly must have been impressed with all the new development and improvements to the city. Every day brings positive changes that just help to keep moving the area forward and we are proud to be part of it.

After valet parking my car the check in was efficient, friendly, and speedy. I was upgraded to a superior room, which was quite large, with a couch, desk, bureau and king bed. It was spotless. The bed was incredibly comfortable with the regular Westin comfort pillows and covers. The desk was average sized but my biggest complaint is that it faces away from the TV and the TV was attached to the wall, so it was impossible to see the TV and work. Electric outlets were adequate. The TV was attached to the wall facing the bed, so sitting on the couch or working at the desk did not allow for a view. The internet was adequate. It was seasonal outside so I do not have line of site to the workings of the thermostat.

The bath was enormous in size and included a large sink, tub and toilet. All worked well. There were the traditional Westin toiletries, and water pressure was fine.

The Fitness Center is adequate, located on the first floor.

There are two, unaffiliated restaurants on the first floor. I went to Roast (see separate review), a Michael Symon restaurant, and it was horrible. This was my second visit, my first several years ago, and this is definitely on my Do Not Return list.

The location is a little off the beaten path from the Ren Cen, so take that into account when booking, but overall I really liked the hotel and would definitely return.

Stayed here one night over Easter weekend. The hotel is held within the bones of the old Book-Cadillac, but this hotel is all-new inside. Check-in was quick and efficient, with the agent proactively offering me my choice of Gold benefits.

The room was spacious and modern, with a view of the river. Bed was very comfy, and the bathroom spacious and achingly clean.

Very convenient location if you want a Coney dog—less than a block away. As is the People Mover if you dislike walking.

It was nice to see such a modern and new hotel within the great old structure. My choice the next time in am in Detroit.

Room Tip: High floor, and easy to get away from the elevators.

We chose to celebrate our 40th anniversary and it was a wonderful experience. The corner room on the 18th floor room had a panoramic view of the Detroit River (so we didn't have to look only at the vacant building across the street). The location is close to many restaurants downtown...but since we live in Detroit, I would not recommend walking around after dark. In the hotel there is no problem feeling safe with the doormen, valets and elevators that require your keycard. The two room suite was large and the shower was almost like another room! The bathtub was a disappointment being only about 18 inches high and with room for one person who is not too big. We ate at Roast (an upscale restaurant in the hotel) last time we stayed here, but not this time; it was great, but expensive. All the employees were very professional and, at the same time, very warmly welcoming. The only thing I did not like was that the furniture and one mirror had a worn appearance (cracks and chipped corners). The two large flat-screen TV's were all my husband saw!

Room Tip: River view and higher floor

My son & I attended a concert at the Fillmore so I wanted to find a hotel that was close and nice. Everyone was very friendly and extremely professional. The only rooms they have with 2 beds were doubles so I was worried they would be small but actually the size was perfect. The rooms themselves were huge as was the bathroom. The shower was great with one of those cool shower-heads and they have instant hot water so that's a bonus. TV is huge, desk is perfect size, view was fine, no complaints with any of that. Cons would be $8 a day for internet. I just used my phone for that but when I stay at Omni or Kimpton I don't get those charges. Also the bed is a little firm for my taste but my son said his was fine so that's debatable. Side notes - valet is $15 a day but it was worth it to me and you have to use your room key to take the elevators up, nice safety feature.

Room Tip: We were on the 22nd floor which had a decent view. Valet is very reasonable but there is a parkin...

Both times we have stayed here the hotel rooms have been a great size, clean and comfortable. The ammenities are great. Enjoy the great robe, beds and shower. Location for downtown Detroit is great for access to events and have the retaurant Roast on site is a great bonus.
