“Best of Detroit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

The Hotel, MGM Grand Detroit is one of the finest for service, accommodations, food, location and fun. The casino is open, and very friendly. The restaurants are great. Good food, service and choices.

Room Tip: 17th floor is the best with the goodies.

MGM staff and facilities were exceptional. Prompt check in and check out, fast valet service, very clean and comfortable room. Would recommend to others. All staff we met were very
courteous, friendly and helpful when needed.

We stayed at the MGM Grand for two days while attending a friend's wedding. We did not use the casino, so my evaluation will be only as to a hotel.

The hotel is clean, well-staffed, aesthetically beautiful, and high end. We stayed at the Atheneum for one night before our stay at the MGM. These hotels were night and day in terms of quality, aesthetic beauty and value. The Atheneum by comparison appeared dingy and run down, while the MGM was stately, clean in appearance and smell, and high quality. Even the view from the hotel room was a great one. I would definitely stay at the MGM if I was in Detroit again.

I really enjoyed my staycation. My husband and I went to the spa, had a blast on slots, and loved our dinner. The staff was warm and very friendly. When I had a small issue with my room, they quickly fixed it, and gave us a pass to the concierges lounge. That was nice.

First mistake: trying to spend the night which was also a tiger baseball game night. Upon arrival there was a long line for check in. After receiving room key went to room and dropped off luggage. Tried dinner at Taps. No reservations for dinning. Completely booked for the night. Luckily, we were able to find a small table in the first come first serve bar area. Food was very good. Our waiter was excellent. After dinner went to the slot machines. Too crowded and smokey! Machines were very tight with money and seemed to be not well maintained. Multiple times my m life card was unreadable and the touch screen wouldn't work. I did get a replacement card but still had trouble and by this time was very frustrated with the machines. Didn't win any money. By 8:00 I was back in the room. Had to take a shower due to reeking of smoke smell. After showering, was relaxing in the room till about 10:45, when all hell broke lose. All of a sudden you could hear a large group of people being obnoxiously loud and slamming doors. Then the loud music and hollering. It was a multi room floor party. My husband and I knew we weren't going to get any sleep and there was no way we were going to get any assistance with this mob so we packed it up and headed for home. Went downstairs to the lobby which was in full chaos. Only 2 hotel staff at the desk and the phone was ringing off the hook and people were waiting at the desk. People were rude and cutting in while the staff where on the phone and trying to help people at the desk. I finally got assistant and was offered another room. During this ordeal a partier was mocking the desk clerk to me "so sorry for your troubles." The desk clerk just looked at me and shook her head. I told her No Way! The hotel staff was too overwhelmed to really care or help. The place was out of control. People everywhere. The valet was packed. Thank goodness we were able to get our car and get out of there. The weekend scene is definitely a chaotic party scene. I thought this was going to be a great night but was I ever wrong.

If you’re looking for more than ordinary, pull a wild card out of your suit pocket and whisk your special someone away to MGM Grand Detroit, Detroit’s little slice of Las Vegas.

Located in the heart of downtown, MGM Grand Detroit gives any Detroit Weekendtripper an excuse to get fancy-schmancy — dress to the nines and take a few ‘selfies’ — we all do it.

For those of you looking more than to dress and impress, call for a limo and let a charming professional handle all the stresses Detroit traffic bring.

The MGM Grand also features delicious platters cooked by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck whose mouthwatering steak and fresh fish marinate with his exclusive sauces only found at MGM Grand Detroit — you definitely need to try the scallops, a crowd favorite.

If you feel like dancing you can check out one of the upscale nightclubs or lounges and listen to a live DJ or musical act.

When you cash in your chips, find your way to a candlelit suite where prepared desert await. The MGM Grand hotel renders a full-service concierge staff prepared to meet your every need.

Better yet, when you wake up the morning after, recoup at the MGM spa and kiss life’s worries away under tranquil water and soothing light made to help re-energize you battery for round two.

The hotel facility was very clean and comfortable. The staff friendly and accommodating. Attending a couple of different restaurants (Wolfgang Puck was great) and nightclubs were fun.
I would definitely go back and would recommend to any of my out of town friends and colleagues.

Room Tip: could not find way to brighten the room, lights seemed dim
