“Pricey for the portions, but dim sum nevertheless.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

I've dined at plenty of dim sum places and while this is the only one in midtown Detroit, I really can't complain for its convenience. The service was a tad bit slow but then one has to expect that for dim sum served in a non-push cart method (authentic dim sum places have carts of food constantly circling the diners). The drinks came fast which was nice. The atmosphere isn't exactly nouveau Asian and I can't exactly put my finger on what it's supposed to be. At $3.25- 4.00 a plate for dim sum I thought the prices were a little steep considering the size of the portions. The selection isn't is as extensive as some of their competitors over in Windsor nor its West Bloomfield location. It obviously fills a niche in serving up something unique in the area and a lot of Asian students seem to flock here for a taste of home cooking. The food's tasty but I still wish for a larger more extensive menu to sample and try. There are some of us who are willing to experiment and try other things too!

“Detroit's version of Mr. Chow Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

I love the sticky rice that's served in a Lotus leaf. The curry baby squid, I have to have at least once a week. This is one of my favorite restaurant. Excellent service and reasonable prices makes this one of Detroit's finest little secrets.

“Very good "go-to" frequent choice in Mid-Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2012 via mobile

We have been going to ShangriLa since it opened mainly because of its varied menues (you get 3). The LACrunch roll is a great choice (the crunchy stuff is warm). We like the hot and sour soup, too. For the adventurous the green curry dish is nothing short of wonderful. Service is spotty so don't be shy about flagging a manager down. The food is worth the hassle of paying for parking next door.
