“Great romantic getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2009

My husband and I did a romantic weekend at the Inn on Ferry St. We purchased one of those packages that gave us a romantic dinner at the Whitney Restaurant. I really thought this was a nice way to see such a wonderful restaurant. I really like the fact that the hotel shuttled us to the restaurant and one of the casino's in the area. Our room was absolutly beautiful. The continental breakfast was fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to anyone intested it taking advantage of all they have to offer.

We did the dinner at the Whitney package and stayed for one night only. Our room was in the Roehm House on the top floor with an outside balcony and a jacuzzi tub. (The tub's drain was clogged, hopefully fixed by now). Transportation to and from The Whitney is included. Dinner was excellent. The room was lovely, breakfast was good and we felt very safe. The Casinos, Fox, etc. are all very close. A perfect get-away!

The Inn on Ferry Street is a pleasure, and not at all what one might expect on a business trip to Detroit. Ferry Street, adjacent to Wayne State University, is a block of exquisitely restored luxurious homes from the late 1800s. Several of the homes are part of the Inn; others appear to be offices, museums or private residences. The architecture includes Victorian, Arts& Crafts, and a spectacular neo-French Chateax (now a law office). The street is gorgeous, well manicured, quiet and safe.

The reception desk is in the Scott House. My room was on the third floor of the Pungs House. The room was enormous and beautifully appointed. The furnishings and decor are consistent with the architecture, but the Inn is not a museum of antiques - - you have every modern convenience, right down to the plumbing fixtures and the wireless internet.

If you have a car (I didn't), parking is free. There are good restaurants within reasonable walking distance (a half mile or so). The folks at the front desk, recognizing that many people may be averse to walking around in Detroit after dark, encourage use of the Inn's free and very efficient on-call shuttle service. I walked anyway, and saw nothing to make me feel less safe than in any other major US city.

Breakfast, in Scott House, is generous and plentiful- - eggs, pancakes, bacon, oatmeal, granola, fruit, pastries, bagels, and just about anything else you could want.
I had business downtown (2-3 miles away) in the morning, and took the Inn's shuttle.
I would gladly return to the Inn, and heartily recommend it.

  • Liked — Beautiful lodging in an historic preservation neighborhood.
  • Disliked — No criticism at all.

My wife and I were in town for a tiger ballgame and we found the hotel on line. We were very pleased with the location and the Inn itself was imaculate. The staff was very helpful and pleasent and the shuttle service was great. (we used it alot). I would recommend the Inn to anyone looking for a nice, quiet, comfortable hotel at a very reasonable price. Thank you again for your hospitality. Roger Barham

We stayed on room 4101.

Very charming place in the heart of Detroit. Stayed here to see some Detroit Techno at Z's Villa. Cute room - nicer than expected - comfy bedding- large shower/bathroom. Awesome HIGH ceilings. Would ask for a tour of all properties onsite, if possible.

Felt safe & secure in a city that sometimes makes one feel otherwise...oh, and did I mention FREE parking. That's not common w/ big city accommodations.

Huge thumbs up on the FREE shuttle service - worked great for us!

-- biggest complaints...

listening to people clomp around above us in the early AM (try to stay on the upper floor(s)) and eggs gone (and not replaced) at breakfast.

  • Liked — Awesome restoration!
  • Disliked — Being able to hear people clomping & talking in room above ours

OMG!!! This place is fabulous!
Atually got room on third party website. I was really excited from the reivews on line. I actually paid an extra night and my only regret is not staying all week!!

It is EVERYTHING the internet reviews say that it is!!!
It is "cute as a button!!" The rooms are beautiful. It is quiet. The staff is MORE than accommodating and friendly. The shuttle service is great.

If I am ever back in the city...there is no question about it..>I am here!!

  • Liked — The houses are lovely!
  • Disliked — Not good for families...each room has a queen bed only. No pool or other "stuff" for children.

My visit to the Inn on Ferry Street was an unexpected pleasure. The staff was extremely pleasant and very accommodating. Our room was an incredible surprise...clean, comfortable and very inviting. We arrived later in the evening after a family wedding celebration and found the Inn a perfect tranquil end to a special day. In the morning, we joined other guests for a superb breakfast. The food was fantastic!

The Inn on Ferry Street was a unique experience and I definitely plan to return for a much longer visit soon!

  • Liked — Unique restoration of the rooms and buildings.
