My husband and I stayed at the Inn as well as my parents and sisters. We had a marvelous stay. Our room had a huge balcony where our entire party was able to gather to enjoy a perfect spring evening. Our bathroom had a spa tub that was marvelous after a busy day on our feet. Our bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Both the room and the bathroom were spacious.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. They quickly answered all our needs and concerns. The breakfast was delicious, fresh, and bountiful. Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient. Erica at the front desk was very pleasant and helpful.
If I had one criticism, it would be the trip up the stairs to our rooms...but it was definitely worth it! I could have had a room on a lower floor, but chose to have the room on an upper floor.
I can't wait until our next trip to the Inn on Ferry Street.

  • Liked — Our room was perfect!
  • Disliked — We had to climb stairs to get to our room.

I booked our stay at the Inn on Ferry St. through Orbitz in December 2007 in preparation for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2008. I read lots of good reviews and decided to go for it.

The problems started the day I got there, but I gave them the benefit of doubt. We arrived earlier than the check-in time, the room wasn't available, so no problem, we knew the time was 3pm. Well, we go out and about and come back at 3pm only to find out our room isn't ready and wasn't finally checked out until 3:30pm. No biggie, it happens.

Our room has wet spots on the carpet, the shower is decrepit, old, and barely working with little water pressure, and despite booking 6 months in advance we're pushed all the way to the 3rd floor. Again, I can live with it, I'm not a wimp and it's an indie business, can't expect perfection.

On day two, the room is blazing hot. 80+ degrees. I'm usually okay with warm rooms, but after dancing and being outside all day, and paying premium money, I want a room that's nice and cool. Well, I go to change the temperature on the thermostat and it's LOCKED. Okay, whatever, I'm just going to take off extra clothes, crash, and deal with it later. We're out again most of the night to enjoy the parties, and don't come back until the next morning.

Again, the room is blazing, hitting 90 degrees. Can't change the thermostat. I get a few hours of poor sleep and decide to enjoy the rest of the festival. We come back that night around midnight to get some good sleep before we get on the plane home the next morning. Well, the room at this point is still at 90 degrees and blazing, so I decide to call the front desk to ask why it's so hot. Well, Terrence explains to me that they don't turn the A/C on until June, no matter how hot it gets. I ask if he can't make an exception considering this is our last night and it's summer...I mean come on, I just dropped ~$200 per night and I just want some A/C...it would be one thing if I was staying in a 3rd world country, but jeez. Well, he says he can't do it, owners won't allow it. I ask if he'll at least bring us some ice and waters since it's so hot and there's no fridge. He first resists, and says I can come get it. So I politely say, "Well, my room is blazing hot, it's 1am, and I've been out and about all weekend, I'd really appreciate it if you just brought it to us, it would really help out" (which I should NEVER have to do at ANY hotel, much less some fancy bed and breakfast that costs way too much money). He says "fine, I'll be there soon." And I wait. And wait. And I realize he's never going to show up. Fine, be that way, I'll quietly go home, and be sure to write the most scathing review of your hotel on every website I can.

Really, for the price this place costs you'd think they'd turn on the A/C on the third and hottest floor, or at the very least bring us free ice and water. Nah, let 'em rot. They already paid Orbitz, no way they can get their money back now.

I overlooked some of the rude behavior of the manager and receptionists early on. But this cut the cake. I'll never go to this amateur establishment again.

We just did the 'Dining in Detroit' package for $305 for a King Suite and a 4 course meal and bottle of wine plus desert for two at the fabulous Whitney Restaurant. Our tab for dinner at the Whitney came to $195 - so our room only cost about $110 for the night. The Inn also gives free van service anywhere within a 5 mile radius so we took advantage of that to do some DUI free bar hopping downtown Detroit! As others have described, the Inn at Ferry Street is absolutely beautiful, the rooms are very nicely appointed and very clean, the service is great, the ambiance is better - what else can I say? Fantastic! When we returned from the bar, we grabbed two glasses of wine from the honor bar and sat outside in the courtyard gazebo and enjoyed a beautiful Michigan Spring night with the hustle and bustle sounds of the city as a backdrop. A must stay place for out of towners to really get the feel of Detroit, especially if they enjoy architectural gems.

I found this hidden treasure online. My new husband and I decided to spend a night in this hotel because I found it charming on the pictures, and it was charming for real.
We had lovely room in lilac and beige colors. The old fashion furniture was real hit, we absolutely loved the bed, that was one of the best mattresses I have ever slept on. Bathroom was nice, there were fresh white towels and all the toiletries needed. The tub was a bit old, but not too bad. Like most of the guests in this hotel, I had a problem with starting the shower, but the lady at the desk was very helpful when I called for instructions. Iron and the ironing board were a great touch too. We didn't watch tv for, but I saw there was cable installed. Next to the bed was a cd player and alarm clock.
Starbucks coffee in the room was a bingo for me, I loved that. Loved the breakfast too, great choice of cereal, fruit, juice, bread and bagels, next to scrambled eggs and you can even make your own waffles. Breakfast area was intimate and cozy, everything was fresh and delicious.
Checkout went more then smooth. Actually, we didn't have to do anything because we mentioned we were leaving when we came down for breakfast and the lady did everything on her own. All we had to do was give keys back and say goodbye. I have to underline that people were great, helpful and had plenty of information about the hotel and area history.
Definitely we are staying at Inn on Ferry street again.

I can't believe I forgot to write this review for so long!

I love this place. I stayed here the night before and the night of my wedding. The location is great - right off Woodward in Midtown. They have a shuttle that will run you anywhere within 5 miles, and a free parking lot behind the main building. There are several buildings - I stayed in the main one which is where reception is and where the daily breakfast is served.

The staff was so helpful and nice throughout my stay. They gave me a great room - a huge and super comfortable king bed, jacuzzi tub, and sitting room, for about $150 a night. They also let us use the other buildings for our pictures.

The ground are impeccable, the houses are furnished with beautiful antiques and great woodworking, and I love the history there.

The breakfast was wonderful - coffee, juice, eggs, pastries, and a make your own waffle station. They also have a hospitality cart in the evenings stocked with water, soda, beer and wine. Just tell the receptionist what you had and they will charge it to your room.

They also have a space for private events.
