“Overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Went here for happy hour last week... "Best of Detroit" hahaha.. We were told one beer on tap for the HH by so called bartender... His buddy walks in 15 minutes later ...Guess what .. they have 2 beers on tap... Terrible service ... too bad because the food was quite good but didn't go down well after the aftertaste of rudeness... and SLOWWW to boot... never going back...

“Food was good. Service was good. Not as good as billed though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

My expectations were quite high for this place after reading reviews. That may be why I am slightly disappointed. Everything we had from the sides to the special to the steaks was very well prepared and tasted very good. However nothing really knocked our socks off.

“not your typical hotel restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

This place is definitely worth the effort to get there. Our table of 6 started with fried marrow, which was tasty but I couldn't get past the texture, and oysters which were fresh and delicious. I had the sea salt fillet which was tender and cooked to perfection. For sides we had the fried brussel sprouts which are a must, these are not your mothers steamed miniature cabbages. They were slightly caramelized and wonderful. We also had creamed spinach with feta. We finished the night with a variety of desserts that were very good. The mango lime sorbet was an amazing combination and a great way to finish off an excellent meal. The service was attentive but relaxed. The first time I looked down at my watch was 3 hours into the experience. We will certainly be back.

“Better than Lola”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

I know Lola is Michael Symon's flagship but Roast is the better beast. My husband and I dined on an early Friday evening before it filled up. The wines by the glass list is well thought out to pair with the main offerings. Roast marrow topped with parsley, caper etc was divine - bone butter don't get any better! The oysters were spot on fresh and beautifully shucked (hard to find). Dinner was equally good - the lamb ragu could have done without the cheese because it was already rich and unctuous enough. My husband had the confit duck and commented that the leg was stringy and chewy but that the accompanying roast root veg was the best he ever had. When we get this far and enjoy our meal, the quality of the coffee will tell. The roast (hahah) was nice and smooth but the temperature was tepid. Overall, worth it even though I have to work overtime to pay for the meal. Next time, we'll have the roast beast of the day!

“King of Detroit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

There is nothing in Detroit that compares to Roast. Whether dining at the bar with the bar menu or eating in the dining room, the food is fantastic. The ambience is great and you feel like you could be at any high end restaurant in the country. I am very grateful that this restaurant is in our city. Make sure you request to be seated in the main dining room. They will seat people in booths right by the bar and if you are on a hawt date, it may be a buzz kill.
