Lovely spacious room with amazing views, lovely food, fantastic friendly staff plus absolutely perfect weather - marvellous! The Scafell will definitely be our hotel of choice for a future Lakes stay.

Having just returned from a trip to the lakes without any rain!!
We stayed at the Scarfell hotel in the Barns Wallis suite, this room is beautiful with its lounge area x2 flat screen TV and iPod dock. The staff are so friendly & the food is excellent. Would recommend this hotel in my opinion one of the best I've stayed in! Oh yes and if you like Ales make sure you visit the Scarfell's Riverside bar they have 6 to choose from. Will visit again!

We had a lovely one night stay at Scafell Hotel. The room was not overly large, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and had been redone beautifully. The dining room and attached pub were both wonderful spots to enjoy our meals and drink, and the staff were exceptional! What a beautiful part of the UK. I hope to return one day.

This is our 2nd visit to this hotel and again it was very good. We booked through a Travel Zoo offer but upgraded to the Barnes Wallace Suite as we had stayed in it before. The suite is large and well equipped with a view towards the hills. The bathroom is very stylish with local slate tiling.
The breakfast selection is excellent and sets you up for the day. Dinner was enjoyable with the chef trying some new veg. which we hadn't heard of [ navets].
Our only negative comment is that at the door to the reception area it smelt very unpleasantly of cigarettes as there was a receptacle for butts and it obviously needed emptying.

Room Tip: Barnes Wallace Suite

What a fantastic 2 days away, this was our first time at the hotel and cannot wait to return with our dogs. The staff are very friendly, the food was excellent and rooms very comfortable. The owners have done a great job in making Scafell a great place to relax, walk eat and drink whilst welcoming dogs.

Stayed at the Scafell Hotel in Borrowdale, Lake District for 3 nights last week. We got a deal on Travel Zoo which offered a fantastic deal for two nights but hotel matched this deal for our 3rd night so win win situation. Traveled from Newhaven and were excited about our first visit to the Lake District. WOW how stunning is this place! The Hotel looked as lovely on arrival as it sounded from Tripadvisor reviews, I always read Tripadvisor before I book anywhere. Upon arrival we were greeted by Jack on reception we were a little early booking in but our room was ready so were able to get in to unpack and relax after our journey. Room 10 was FAB FAB FAB it overlooks the fells and the views from the windows were stunning. The room, along with the hotel theme is antique and contemporary the bedroom offers beautiful furniture and then the bathroom is to die for. Very modern and stylish with lovely shower gels etc to us. Shower really powerful and underfloor heating plus heated towel rail all great after a full days walking. Only negative with the bathroom was the plumbing after we used the facilities the pipes knocked together for about 10 mins? Don't know if this was just room 10 but did hear the knocking when a joining room used their bathroom also. This would seriously not put me off going back again.
The restaurant - well where can I start. Fantastic quality food presented superbly every day we were there. Full choice of English breakfast orders taken at the table for your choice, don't worry if you want to add something or indeed leave something off the list they will prepare what you want how you want it. Toast, tea and coffee plentiful juices cereals porridge with cream yum yum loads to choose from. Had a packed lunch to take out one day and this was fab also lovely ham in sandwich, crisps, cake, apple, choc bar, tomato, hard boiled egg! only thing I would say this needed was a bottle of drink, perhaps a thought for you to add. The evening meal is a five course affair, again presentation is the key at the Scafell and this is fantastic! Every evening the menu changes and there are several choices for each course, believe me you will find something you will enjoy I couldn't make my mind up most evenings but when I did I wasn't disappointed. I can honestly say that the food and service were second to none. The restaurant is looked after by a lovely young lady called Fiona who interacts well with her staff and customers. Our main waitress was a really lovely young girl called Laura who paid attention to detail but also chatted with us and made us feel at home, as we were there for 3 nights she gave us the impression she had known us for a lot longer. Laura your a credit to the Scafell! All the staff that looked after us were attentive and polite and looked like they enjoyed working for the owners of this impressive hotel. The hotel also has a Riverside bar that it tucked away round the corner from the main hotel again we frequented this after our walks before the cocktail bar opened in the hotel this was lovely and friendly and I ate a homemade soup there it was yummy. No problem having drinks put onto our room and we did this throughout our stay settling at checkout. Reasonable prices so don't panic. Overall this hotel deserves to promote the fact that it's celebrating 40 years of being independent and individual as it's friendly approach will make people like us travel and stay for many years to come.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main hotel seems to have great rooms of the fells

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District’s renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here. Our rooms were fully refurbished during 2009, in a Warm and Rich Country House style with a ‘Contemporary Twist’ perfect for setting the scene for a peaceful and relaxing break in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The Restaurant, Lounges and Bar have been tastefully decorated and furnished to retain that all important Country House warmth, allowing for complete relaxation after a great days walking on the Fells, and maybe even a little ‘nap’ by the fire after a delicious five course Dinner. Under the constant direction of owner’s Miles Jessop MBE (Chairman) and Andrew Nelson (Managing Director) the Management and Team of Scafell Hotel offer truly warm and friendly service.
