“Basic, comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

We stayed two nights for a business meeting in the little motel-like building next to the lodge (room 27, I think). On the one hand, it was nice and clean and boxy and kinda rustic, looking like it'd been last decorated in the late-70's. It was clean, though. And because we were at the very northern tip of MI, it was expected and OK. Dreadful internet service and no cell phone service for the most part, but again, we're in Michigan's extreme northlands and so that's what you get when you go "remote". On the other hand, the Dish network TV had just about as many channels as you'd need... but we didn't stay in much of the day. Too much to see and do around the area.

I decided to write a review now because the Sunday Star Tribune just recommended the Lodge. I have been staying up here every few years since the late 70's but no more. The lodge is run by the County which is why - according to the staff last year - there really is no incentive to improve the facilities or customer service.

The mattresses must be at least 30 years old, they are soft and lumpy. While the atmosphere is charming, nothing else matches up. The Star Tribune mentions jacuzzi tubs - never seen one. Dupluxes with thin walls, and after seeing no updating of anything in 30 years, I will not be back again. Too bad, this place has such great potential but is way overpriced. I would recommend visiting the lodge for a meal, just for the setting alone.

We stayed here for a wedding. The service in the bar was excellent, the food in the restaurant (specifically the breakfast buffet) was okay, the food for the reception was Great. We stayed in one of the rooms next to the lodge and it was HUGE. And conveniently all we had to do was walk down some steps outside, after the open-bar reception, and we were right at our room! The rest of our family was in one of the cabins (four adults and two five-year-olds) and really enjoyed their stay as well. The rooms did not have air conditioning and the UP was having record high humidity and heat, but we did not suffer in our room. We kept the windows shut through the day and the room stayed quite cool.

Staying in Copper Harbor on 4th of July weekend. Even with most of the surrounding cabins occupied-it was very quiet and romantic - felt like we had the place all to our selves.
1 bedroom cabin - decorated simply - yet clean and comfortable. They provide wood for the fireplace and makes for a lovely afternoon and evening to just sit an enjoy the quiet nature setting.
"Continental breakfast" is simple. Would have liked a refrigerator, but otherwise good value for the money.

We stay here every year when we go up to Copper Harbor for a fall weekend. The lodge itself is historic and they just started keeping open during the winter. The cabins are okay- yes, dated, but this place was built in the 20s! It is not luxurious, but fun, a step up from camping, and the fireplaces in the cabins are great. They are very clean and house keeping comes in daily. We
have always found the place to be quiet and relaxing. The dining has a new general manager and he is great- making changes and delivers a quality menu at a great value. We ate dinner one night at Lodge and were pleasantly surprised. Service was outstanding.

Even though there are not many choices in Copper Harbor, MI we would never choose to stay at the Mountain Lodge if we return to the Keweenaw. It was unusually warm during our stay and the cabins are not air conditioned. We were not told by staff that there were fans available at the main lodge nor did the cabin provide that information. The flies were abundant and annoying. The beds were very uncomfortable. The restaurant food was average. The golf course was very disappointing. The setting is reasonably quiet except early mornings when work begins on the grounds. REALLY not worth the cost.

First of all, the cabins are duplex's and have paper thin walls. Our neighbor had six people in the two person room and partied all night. When we called the office at 1:00 AM no one answered. I finally walked to the lodge and found the only one around was a young girl tending bar. She promised to find the maintenance man and send him down. He never showed. The next morning they promised to move (not evict) the offending party. When we returned at 4:00 PM our neighbors were still there. They had asked the party group to move and they didn't want to so that was all they could do. We moved...to a different establishment.
