In my 20's we'd frequent the HCI and it seemed a little like a ski resort - actually IT IS near cannonsburg ski village (the nearest skiing facility to G.R.) - maybe that's the attraction. It's what Aspen, CO needs - a resort style restaurant without all the 'priciness' (new word). It's woodsy and intimate but loud and obnoxious. It's family but boozy. It's a bar; but perfectly OK (it seems), to bring young children at times.
I haven't been to Honey Creek (until last week) and let me tell you - if you're in Rockford, Greenville or Grand Rapids, it's worth a trip. We visited over the holidays and it was magical. People laughing, the sound of peanut shells crunching, and just very cozy. It's cramped, don't get me wrong, because they cram this place on weekends.
The weekends are explosive because they offer an impeccable menu, lower prices, and an abundance of food!!! The chef, as any foodie can tell, is not a 'cook', obviously an accomplished Chef.
The menu isn't classic Irish - they have fish and chips but beyond, a great menu.
Check it out.
