“Not good, not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2009

Trip with wife & 2 kids (9&14). Got a "normal" room. Bathroom is very small, beds are very firm, room has no microwave. Did not hear outside noise, but doors in hotel are very noisy. Breakfast is standard fare, but breakfast area is way too small. If you are going to Copper Harbor, location is great. There is a huge grocery store, a Pamida (similar to Shopko), a great bakery with pasties, & a gas station right next door. Pool is salt water, very big hot tub, and nice sauna. All 3 were very nice & very clean. Hotel was full, but very few children. I would stay here again, but in a bigger room.

The AmericInn is in the middle of the Keweenaw National Historic Park. There is lots to visit with numerous copper mining sites and buildings to see. In addition, the Keweenaw Peninsula has spectacular views of Lake Superior. Our room was clean and the wi-fi was fast and reliable. Breakfast seems to be the same each day with fresh waffles, hard boiled eggs, sausage and an assortment of Danish pastries, bagels and bread along with several cold cereals. The staff was friendly and helpful. As mentioned in earlier reviews, the walls of the rooms were soundproof and the heating unit was especially quiet, but noise from people in the hallway was noticeable in the room. The swimming pool and spa were very warm when we were there.

I stayed at this hotel while visiting my son at MTU in Hancock, MI. The hotel decor is Copper Country themed, with lots of pictures and exhibits on the walls of the history of the region. The hotel also features a lot of wood in the decor - perfect for the area! Breakfast is good and internet access is great. The rooms are very sound-proof, except for that bugaboo with most newer-construction hotels - the adjacent room door slam when kids run in and out. I had a room on the 2nd floor right off landing above the main lobby and dining areas, and I heard none of the noise from those areas during my stay. The room I had was very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel if you stay in this area.

  • Liked — Quietness and comfort of guest rooms
  • Disliked — Door slams tend to reverb through walls - nothing else does.

We like the Americinn chain. They are usually pretty quiet. This one was pretty noisy, but I think it was more the fault of the guests than anything else. A little dated, but clean. Staff is friendly. I think its a little pricey for the area, but all the hotels in the U.P. are.

The room was comfortable and the bathroom was clean except for a few hairs in the tub. Good breakfast buffet.

AmericInn boasts their construction technique ensures quiet rooms. True, we did not hear any noise from outside but then Calumet, MI doesn't have much of a roaring nightlife or traffic. Unfortunately we did hear children racing up and down the hallways, yelling to each other. Quiet hours between 11pm and 7am were not enforced. The kids were still running up and down the hall after 11pm. By golly, they were up early too and were back in the hall just before 7am. We didn't even need to set the alarm.

We have stayed at Americinn numerous times since 1999. The staff has always been great, especially Sandy (front desk). We personally book through her so there is never a chance for a problem. Looking forward to seeing the U.P. and Sandy again soon.

  • Liked — We stay in the same room all the time/king room w/jacuzzi tub....just love it!
  • Disliked — The room was great as always, but I dont care for the way the hotel "rents out" the pool area to outsiders for parties.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2007

We had a great 4 night stay. The breakfast each morning was very fulling and good. the beds were a little hard, from what we are use to but the rooms were clean. Pool was a little cold to our taste but was enjoyable to use. The hot tub was in working order on Friday night, but we did not use it then. Saturday night it was very enjoyable to use. Sunday it was not working and then when we used it on Monday it was not hot or very clear water as it had been on Saturday. We asked the person at the desk about it and she didnt know what was wrong and had said that other people were telling her the same thing it wasn't very warm.
The next morning they did have a repair man there to work on the problem with the hot tub.
I am hoping that they will keep the prices reasonable as we would like to come back and stay there again later in the year, if the price doesnt go up to much.

  • Liked — location not far from who we were visiting.
  • Disliked — beds were a little hard, pool a little tocold.
