I was truly impressed with all aspects of this property, considering it is a budget-branded hotel. The woman who checked me in (sadly I did not get her name) at 11 PM on a snowy evening (snow in late April--welcome to Northern Michigan!) was incredibly friendly and cheerful. The rooms were unique in that the outdoor patio doors had been converted to be accessible with a room key from the outside. Thus one could access the room from either the outside or the interior hallway. I found this to be incredibly convenient for loading and unloading my car. The room was recently renovated and cleaner than many more expensive hotel rooms I've stayed in; the bathroom was "old school" blue tile, but you could tell it had been kept consistently clean--it shined! I found the beds to be too firm for my taste, but I'm rather picky in this department. The free wi-fi posed no problems. The free breakfast was very basic, which was to be expected, but there are many good breakfast choices nearby.
Overall, this is one of the nicest and friendliest budget hotels I have stayed in, and it will certainly be top on my list when I have to return to this region, either on business or for pleasure.
