Description: The Blue Heron serves an excellent breakfast and lunch in large proportions; they are not open for dinner. Food is always fresh and unique. Daily lunches include a choice of 2 homemade soups w/complimentary homemade sourdough bread and a variety of sandwiches on homemade sourdough bread or wraps. Salads are always freshly made and filled with fruit, vegetables, and/or meat with tasty dressings. Two baker's display cases are filled each morning with fresh cookies, fried cakes, muffins, bagels, pies, cakes, and a large variety of sweet rolls, baked on site. Customers congregate there for coffee and a choice of doughnut or cookie. Their breakfasts are hearty and delicious. The owner is the cook, and it is a treat to find such a high quality restaurant in this small tourist town.

“They're #1 in Cadillac!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

If you are looking for excellently prepared food, served by caring, competent people, then the Blue Heron is YOUR place. I've been to Cadillac a 1/2 dozen or so times on business the past few months and had eaten elsewhere until a week ago we "accidentally" wandered into the Blue Heron. Actually we had been referred there by a couple different people, but each time we tried they were closed (after 2:00pm). My business associate and I both had a funky salad and it was absolutely terrific!

“A must try!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Happened to be in Cadillac and met my sister-in-law for lunch. Thought we’d try Blue Heron as it came highly recommended. It did not disappoint! It looks like a standard bakery, but it is so much more.

Service was quick and friendly. Food was out of this world. I had a cup of the Loaded Baked Potato Soup (cup was plenty as it was very rich) which came with a small slice of bread. It tasted just like a hot baked potato with bacon and cheese. I ordered a Sweet Potato Medallion sandwich and had no idea what to expect. Oh my heavens . . . it was delectable. The medallions were about a ½” thick and there were 2-3 per ½ of the sandwich. I believe it had a balsamic fig reduction on it as well; but I may not have remembered it correctly. The bread was perfectly grilled, and the potatoes were the perfect balance between too hard and too mushy. I would definitely order it again. My sister-in-law got the lunch flight which was a brilliant marketing idea. It contained an espresso cup of the soup, a normal cup of the chicken salad, a ½ of what I think was their fancy grilled cheese sandwich, and a cookie. She commented there wasn’t much chicken in the chicken salad, but it was flavorful. Luckily she shared her cookie with me and it too was delicious (chocolate cherry).

I cannot wait to return!

“Unique Sandwiches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

I love this place. While it is true, they are not warm fuzzy people, they are professional and do an excellent job. The soups and sandwiches are the best, quite creative and delicious.

“Fabulous for out-of-towners :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

What a lovely cafe! The food was great! My husband and I stopped for lunch and were not disappointed. The Michigan sandwich (ham, cheese, honey mustard, cherry preserves, and smoked bacon) was the best!! For vegetarians and salad lovers, the Natures Preserve salad was amazing! The owner was so sweet and gave us a fresh loaf of sourdough bread for visiting for the first time. Everyone was so friendly! If you have a sweet tooth, fresh pasteries and cookies are available. We bought extra for the road. I highly recommend!
