“Solace Spa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

The lodge itself looks like it has been re-done since some of the reviews I've read on this site.
We had a wonderful Spa weekend here. I cant say enough about the service and services offered.
We rented several room one being the central "hang out" were we could eat and stitch and play games, drink wine, etc...
I will agree that the food is average at best.
Over all I found it to be a relaxing getaway with some friends.

We stayed for two nights to visit family in the area. We went to the main restaurant Friday night in order to have a quick meal before heading out for the evening. We placed our order. 30 minutes later the waitress said it was just about out. After 45 minutes we went looking for anyone to find where our food was. After 55 minutes, the hostess and the chef came out and said that our meal had been burned and they were preparing another one for us. They apologized, but by then we were late and had to leave, hungry. Customer service requires you to tell the customer that something is wrong early enough for them to order another, faster meal.
The room was fine, but expensive and we won't be back.

Stayed for 4 nights to golf the local courses. The golf was really good. However, the hotel is very dated, probably to the point where updating is not viable. One gets the feeling that things are tight, although they took over a couple of courses in the last 2 years. Maybe because of that. The staff are good, but we had one dinner when 2/3 rds of the menu items were "off" and what we had was not great. The breakfast is a buffet with the usual items, but their supplier of sausages should be taken out and ....... The bacon is chewy and generally it was all mediocre, like the hotel and the rooms. Very small windows and a balcony that looked cute, but a bit unsafe.

Room Tip: They have rooms with bigger windows. Ask for one!

In August 2011 eight of us went on a golf outing staying for 4 nights and we were not happy with our accomodations at all. However, Boyne does aim to please and gave us a discount this year and ensured we would be in renovated rooms for 2012. We were not disappointed and I tip my hat to Boyne for ensuring us a nice stay as promised.

In addition, the restaurant opened 1/2 hour early and did everything possible to get us our breakfast so that we could meet our tee times.

Our golf experience was much nicer even if some of our golf shots were not.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room when making your reservation

We took a quick trip to Boyne and the hotel was great...tons to do. We vistited the beach, the pool and avalanche bay. Took a chairlift ride up to the restaurant...food was soso, but the view and experience was fun. My only complaint was that you cannot check in until 5...which is LATE especially when you are only staying 1 night and check out is 11. Restaurants and shops weren't open very late. However...having everything in 1 place was great. I would go back.

Spent the weekend @ Deer Lake Villa's - great place and could be a real gem; however I dont believe that the condo/villa has been updated or even maintained for that matter since the 70's. Carpet was stained and dirty, wall paper pieling off of the walls, tile floor cracked, no outdoor furniture on the balcony's, no headboards on the beds, toilet not secured down, bath tub was chipped and the shower was interesteding to say the least. One TV in the living room that was about 20 years old - everything was just so dated and worn out. All for $300+ per night!!
Beautiful lake and setting, but Boyne needs to put some money into these places or make the owners do it. Oh... and they decided to mow the lawn @ 8am Saturday morning.

Room Tip: Some of the units have been updated - look for one of those!

Stayed in one of the condos on site, plenty of room for 4 adults, could have easily had 2 more. Good location for hiking, golf and seeing Northern Michigan. Rooms were clean and spacious, though some maintenance was needed. Great spa on site too. The restaurants were surprisingly good and not outrageously priced for hotel restaurants. We ate at Sagamore's for breakfast and the Beach House for dinner, which had a great view of Deer Lake.
