“Wonderful food for a "small town" restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2011

Typical atmosphere...nothing special, but the attraction is the home-cooked food, which we love. Breakfasts are wonderful and tasty. The place is jammed on Wednesday for their ribs special, which are the best around, and the Friday night "local" whitefish special. Light breading and soooo good. There is often a wait on busy, summer evenings but so worth it. Great value. Friendly service by a staff that has been there for quite a while and knows the menu and many of the customers. Our favorite in Bellaire.

“go across the street”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2011

a group of friends and i were going to eat at bellaire bar across the street but it was packed and we waited forever so we went across the street... i wish we would have waited. it should have been a clue that toonies was mostly empty, but we were hungry so we ate. two of the items i tried to order they were out of. the server recommended a salad that was similar to the one i tried to order and i trusted her. the salad was 9 bucks and was iceberg lettuce, some plain cheddar cheese, frozen chicken strips they tossed in the fryer and a few other flavorless veggies.

we had deepfried pickles as an appetizer and although they were pretty good, i think we got 3 of them for like 6 bucks. not worth it.

on top of the food the server seemed unable to perform under pressure and felt the need to let us know she has a 9 top that just came in and she was clearly frazzled and came to us for sympathy or something.

go across the street to bellaire bar or to shorts or lulus instead

“Fair to middlin'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

Food is ok. Staff is friendly, but not very knowledgeable about their own menu. Closes kind of early for a bar. Like a place that isn't sure what it wants to be: steak house or martini bar, make up your mind. Not my first choice, but it would do in a pinch if I was hungry and nothing else was open.

“Stick with the fish”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2010

I had the shrimp & artichoke fettucini - the shrimp was absolutely horrible - bland and undercooked. Fettucini was ok. My mom had the wasabi encrusted walleye - nice, big piece of fish, but I didn't taste any wasabi at all. Sweet potato fries are good, but you have to pay an extra dollar.

I have eaten here numerous times. The last time being Sept. 2009. I had awesome cheeseburger soup!! The fish is always good. The breakfasts great. I have never had a bad meal at all.
