I am a big Gorey fan and was excited to visit this museum for the first time. I came solo ( my usual MO). The young gal at reception was great, checked me in & told me to wait for the docent. The docent came in (an older woman) and looked at me oddly, it felt like she thought that like I didn't belong there. I offered my name & extended my hand..twice....it was so odd. she stared at me. I turned to the gal at the desk and said does she speak? I really thought that maybe she was deaf. The gal looked uncomfortable. I looked again at the docent and said I've paid for a tour. She snapped out of her stupor. It was obvious that she was thrown by my being African American. The tour was great once she felt comfortable...but that is no way to treat another human being. I love Gorey and recommend the tour, But shame on the older woman docent.
