We just completed a week's stay at the sublimely perfect Liberty Hill Inn. This was our second stay here and it was in every way as wonderful as our first. Innkeepers John and Kris are simply the best - welcoming, helpful and entertaining. When we arrived they greeted us like old friends, we were offered a glass of wine and then given the key to the Normandy room, a large, sunny cheerful bedroom on the first floor of the main house with easy access to the lovely living room with big, comfortable easy chairs and, even more importantly, the cookie jar in the front hall which is always filled with Kris's homemade cookies.
The king-size bed in the Normandy is by far the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. Firm mattress with a three-inch cushioned topper (I know this because I just HAD to know find out what they used so I peeked under the bedding), four huge down pillows and double-sheeting with quality linens. The bed was so wonderful that the scent of Kris's homemade muffins wafting in from the kitchen was our only enticement for getting up in the mornings.
Breakfast at the Liberty Hill Inn is very special - fresh muffins, a fruit course and the main entree. No muffin, fruit dish or entree was repeated in the seven mornings we were there. Muffins like blueberry, raspberry, carrot, apple/cranberry. Fruit dishes like poached pears in ginger sauce or fruit/yogurt parfaits or nectarines in raspberry sauce. Every day the main breakfast entree alternates between sweet and savory - on sweet days we had pumpkin pancakes, waffles with berries, and Kris's special oatmeal pancakes (yummy!); savory dishes included three-cheese egg casserole, or quiche or (my favorite) spinach strata. John offers about six different varieties of juice, and will be happy to make a cappacino or latte if you prefer one over the regular coffee or tea.
John is very knowledgable about the Cape - what there is to do, where the best beaches are, what restaurants are good, and he is very obliging in making reservations or providing directions. For John and Kris, the Liberty Hill Inn is more than just a business. They want their guests to have a wonderful experience in their home, and they certainly achieve that.
We have already booked our stay next year and we cannot wait!
