“Good pizza and Polpette”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014 via mobile

We visited Volturno on a Friday night. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes and it turned out to be about 25 minutes. We started off with drinks and the Polpette appetizer. We got six beef/pork meatballs in a pomodoro sauce which we liked very very much. The waitress answered all of our questions and we had a lot given it was our first visit to Volturno.
We actually apologized for all our questions but she summed it up nicely, no problem it's part of my job. We ended up splitting a Burata pizza. I added mushrooms and prosciutto to half of it, $3 per extra topping!
We loved the pizza, we have never had Neapolitan style pizza before and completely enjoyed it! One pizza, two drinks, one appetizer $46, throw in a tip $56, seemed a bit high to us. The restaurant has an open layout with two imported Neapolitan wood pizza ovens in full view, a nice bar, overall very nice inside.

“Food - Just Ok, Service horrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Was really looking forward to our first visit at Volturno.
The Building itself is very impressive. Nice, Light casual atmosphere in an attractive building.
The host was extremely rude and would not sit a party of two anywhere but the bar even though there were 6-8 tables for 4 available. Once the pizza came we were a bit disappointed. The pizzas are small and expensive but that would be fine if they tasted great. The sauce on the pizzas were very bland and the dough was a bit soggy. Definitely have had better. Especially at $16.00. The waitress we had basically ignored us the entire meal. There was no salt or pepper on the tables and we had to track her down to get these. Then my beverage was empty through just about the entire meal. She never came by to ask if we wanted refills. Again had to track her down to ask for a refill. She also basically threw the " doggy box" on our table at the end of the evening and walked right by without a word. A rather rude and arrogant staff. We wont be coming back! Better pizza to be found in the area with a more inviting staff.

First visit to Volturno Pizza with my family, the pizzas were very well made, fresh quality ingredients. Nice selection of craft beers, topped off with courteous and good service.

“Pizza & atmosphere great but small portions & expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Decided to try this restaurant on Saturday evening. Waited at bar in center or restaturant for 30 minutes before being seated at table. Place is very well-designed, atmosphere is friendly & lively. For an appetizer, we split a salad with lemon vinagerette dressing. Dressing was a bit strong. Spouse ordered special pasta dish with black ink & mushrooms, and I ordered Calabrese pizza. Just a heads-up that the pizza here does not have tomato sauce. A few selections have small pieces of tomato. However, the pizza was very good...can't beat the brick oven flavor (even without tomato sauce). Pizzas here are small but expensive. Spouse's homemade pasta dish was delicious, but her entree was small and did not include any sides. We were both very satisfied with the quality of our meals, but we were still quite hungry when we finished dinner. If money is no object, just keep ordering until you're full!

“Food is only outmatched by service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

We have eaten at Volturno twice in the last few weeks; once for a late lunch and once for dinner. Both times, the place was really busy, but our dinner on a Friday night was especially crowded. At lunch, we were seated immediately. For dinner, we were told there would be a 30 minute wait which turned into an hour. But it was an agreeable hour, as the hostess kept checking in with us and letting us know what was happening with our table. Most surprising of all, when we were finally seated, the management sent over several different kinds of appetizers to make up for the long wait we had, which was totally unnecessary. However, we found it indicative of the care that marked both our experiences at Volturno.

At both meals, we had salads a pizzas. All of the salads were absolutely delicious and very fresh. And the pizzas? OUTSTANDING! All were delicious (we only had vegetarian selections), but we particularly recommend the limone, a mixture of a smoky mozzerella, basil, and the thinnest of lemon slices.

You may have to wait to get in, but it is worth it!
