Spent three delightful days in Williamstown visting our daughter who is working at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was great - big, well appointed, and comfortable. Restaurant was a bit slow - most breakfasts turned into brunch. But this is rural MA and you don't have many other choices except for the Dunkin Donuts at the gas station! Very nice place and convenient for day trips to NY, Vermont, or Mt Graylock. Would definitely recommend...

The hotel is a couple of cuts above the alternatives in town. The rooms are excellent. OK restaurant. The staff was a bit unsophisticated but, hey, you are in rural MA. We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the Clark Art institute. Also, the Rockwell Museum and the summer home of the BSO, Tanglewood are nearby.

We stayed at the Orchards, and found the rooms to be spacious and the furniture nice. Compared to alternatives in the Williamstown area, it was very expensive. My problem was that after staying there once, we decided to come back on what turned out to be a crowded weekend some months in the future. Shortly after booking, we received phone confirmation of our reservations. A few months went by, and when I called to reconfirm, they claimed to have no knowledge our reserving a room. We went back and forth on this a few times, but they were adamant that as far as they were concerned, we had never reserved the room.I really have no way of knowing whether this was a simple error or whether we were dropped because someone else came along who was more important to them. I think hotels should stand by their promises to customers. I don't intend to go back.

Well I was out there on a business trip to check out Crane's paper factories. I had just left the Essex House in NY (crappy food and room for the cost) to go to the Orchids. Although the bus driver forgot our luggage (4 hours away and there were 14 of us), I still had a nice experience. When I entered the hotel, it was dark and walking down the halls reminded me of my old Grandma's house; kinda creaky and old smelling. Well I went into my room and was blown away. The furnishings are amazing. There was a huge armoire, chaise at the foot of a King size canopy bed, dresser drawers in the "foyer" of the room, a wingback chair, a dining area, robes, an enormous bathroom and vanity, hand-crocheted bedspread and pillow cases, an inset in the window with a cushion so you can sit in the light and read or enjoy the view, and oh yeah...a fireplace.
The lobby area also had a fireplace and huge cozy sofas and a grand piano. It felt like we were in a very nice home. I had drinks with the others and when I retired to my room, I found homemade cookies on the nightstand and my crochet bedding turned down to find luxurious sheets underneath. I felt spoiled.
