“Pretty good...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We had a perfectly nice visit to The Orchards. The room was reasonably quiet -- the hotel was not altogether full. The room temperature was fine but the hallways were exceptionally warm -- cost savings? The room itself was reasonably comfortable, the decor a little tired, but holding up okay. There was nothing in particular to rave about, but it was comfortable enough. Except (and this goes for all hotels that have switched to them): the duvets. Sleep becomes impractical when you cannot "split the difference" -- have just a sheet, or a sheet + blanket. The duvet is heavy, you got hot, then removing it, cold. Sleep? Not really so altogether likely. The staff was friendly -- there seemed a tradition to be maintained of friendliness. Were it only a bit more sleep-feasible...

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor, per suggestions on review sites. The room was quite quiet.

Needless to say I'm disappointed that your experience at the Orchards was only "pretty good" We strive to make every guest visit a very pleasant experience. After reading your comments regarding the duvets I want to mention that on a future visit please ask and we will be happy to remove the duvet and replace it with a blanket. ( as would most other hotels). That should resolve your comfort problem.
You are correct that we are proud of the fact our staff works tirelessly to be warm and hospitable. They all enjoy taking care of our guests and they love knowing that their efforts are appreciated. Thanks for pointing out this point in our review.
I hope that you will stay with us again. I'm sure that we can provide you with a good night's sleep!

We just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at the Orchards Hotel. Our room was huge! The king sized bed was incredibly comfortable, as were the down pillows. The staff was among the friendliest and most helpful my husband and I have ever encountered. We were given a discount on our room and a beautiful wine and cheese platter upon our arrival. Such a lovely gesture...and these were no ordinary cheeses, either. They were fabulous! It's a very easy place to find as well.

Room Tip: Courtyard 214 through 208 have a great view of a beautiful courtyard, which has a small pond with a...

Susan please accept a belated Congratulations on your 35 th anniversary. It is very rewarding for us to know that we played a positive part in your enjoyment of the day. I'm glad the our "Surprise and Delight offering" of some special cheeses helped to make your experience more memorable. Thanks for mentioning our very comfortable beds in your review. As you did, most of our guests point out the beds out as one of our hotel's best features. I hope that you will choose to stay with us again on your next anniversary celebration!

Since we live just an hour and a half away, The Orchards is our special get away place. We are never disappointed and each stay gets better and better. They always do something extra that we didn't expect. Like on our last trip (May 19, 2013) we took advantage of their Spring Romance Package. Upon entering our room, (Courtyard View, which we think is the best and each room apparently is decorated differently and this one was really beautiful) - on the table awaited us 4 of the largest chocolate covered strawberries we have ever seen -- beautifully hand-dipped chocolate! This was not listed as part of the Package, so we were especially surprised and pleased. They were delicious. Our dinner at the Gala Restaurant was outstanding - as was the next morning's breakfast. We just love coming to the Orchards. Even though it's been around awhile, they maintain the hotel so it looks brand new. We love it here.

Chester, Vermont

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, but the Courtyard rooms have the best view.

We had a very nice time at the Orchards and wished we had planned a few more days there. The room was very nice and beds comfortable. Dining was excellent ! We had both our evening meal there and breakfast. A real treat.

We also wish that you could have stayed longer. Maybe the next time you visit Williamstown you will be able to take advantage of some of the great summer programs at the Clark, Williamstown Theater Festival and MassMOCA. It's also a great time to simply enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding Berkshire Mountains where there are some of New England's finest hiking trails.

Thanks for staying with us and thanks for for posting your very appreciated comments. See you soon!

We enjoyed a great weekend at this hotel. The room was spacious with very comfortable beds. I loved the window seat, although the view from our room was more paking lot than mountain view. The hotel has old world charm and staff is very friendly. A nice touch is free afternoon coffee and pastries. It is also nice to sit and read a book in the garden. I only missed a kettle and cups with coffee and tea in the room.
We chose route 2 to travel from the Boston area. I can only recommend it. Wonderful views and many great locations to visit or just stop for a rest.

Thanks for staying with us on your brief visit to the area. Glad to see that you enjoyed our beds, as as most of other guests do. After all, a good night's rest is the most important aspect of any hotel visit. Sorry you missed the morning coffee and afternoon tea service that we do daily. I hope that you will be able to take advantage of those services on your next stay at the Orchards. Thanks again for your kind renarks about our facility. Please come back for another visit.

I stayed one night in The Orcards for my anniversary. It was very nice. I chose the Tennessee Williams suite. A lovely shower, hottub (plenty of room for two), and a nice bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable, as was the rest of the room. There were only two minor downsides: one of the windows didn't open very well and the Air Conditioning happened to be down during my stay. But opening a couple windows to the cool evening air of the Berkshires was an easy fix. I ate at The Gala where I had the best NY Strip Steak I have ever eaten and a delicious cheesecake dessert. The dinner for two was about $100. I stayed Thursday-Friday and the price wasn't too bad (just over $200 for the night). I would definitely go again and recommend this to others.

I'm pleased to know that your anniversary visit to the Orchards met all of your expectations. Many people comment on the comfort of our beds. Nice to know you also found them to be of high quality. As you know we are very proud of Gala and the excellent cuisine offered to our guests by Chef Bonnivier. Steaks are a speciality in Gala and I am pleased your dinner in Gala added to the enjoyment of your anniversary visit. Hope to see you again for the next one!

This was probably a nice hotel 20 years ago. The rooms are very old and tired. The curtains and fabrics are all faded. The furniture is wilting. The t.v. is fuzzy. The wallpaper peeling. The common areas are more charming and the restaurant has good food. If you have to stay in Williamstown, it is much much better than the Williams Inn though. The courtyard is nice and the rooms are quiet so it is not ALL bad.

Thank you for your comments. I do want to address your concerns regarding renovations. On an annual basis we schedule various aspects of the property for renovation and/or revitalization. This is an on going process designed to keep the Orchards up to AAA Diamond Standards. Our facility is the only one in Berkshire County to attain that status year after year. We recently received the 2012 award. As we develop our plans for the future we review guest comments to determine what things we need to do to satisfy our guests. Your comments will not fall on deaf ears and we consider them in our future planning.
I'm sure that on your next visit we will meet your expectations.
Thank you for your nice comments on our Restaurant Gala.
