“Ample, delicious, well prepared food in the setting of a lovely old inn.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Be sure to make dinner reservations for this popular restaurant in Whately, Mass. There were many choices on the menu including beef and seafood. Prices might seem high except for the fact that soup or appetizer and dessert and coffee are included with your entree. The food is expertly prepared and very good with attentive service. Acoustics can be a bit noisy when crowded. Ladies receive a fresh rose to take home when leaving. Warning, portions are very AMPLE, 2 people could easily share an entree if they order an extra appetizer and dessert.

“A Timeless Treasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Nestled in the hills of Western Massachusetts is a small B & B known as the Whately Inn. Well off of I 91, and easily accessible by local roads.
It has been a long time since we had been there, probaby 7 or more years but nothing has changed. That warm, cozy New England atmosphere, linen table covers and napkins, lace curtains, pure comfort.
The service is non pareil. A close eye is kept on you, but not in a "hawkish" manner. Oreders are taken in a crisp manner.
Oh, the food!
A medium sized menu, uncomplicated, with tastes to match everyone's palat. Fish, pasta, fowl and beef. Numerous, delicious sides and appetizers, too. A well stocked bar with specialty drinks is a big plus.
Come hungry, enjoy fantastic New England cooking and leave happy!

“A quiet Wednesday evening in the rain....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

The Inn was all candlelit as our party of 6 was seated, we were celebrating a 76th and 20th birthdays this evening, 8/28/13. Alexis was very attentive and kept our glasses filled and bread basket filled as we consumed Veal Parmesan, Delmonico Steak, Chicken Cordon Blue, and NY Sirloin. The desserts were sweet from Strawberry Shortcake to Fudge Pie, to signature caramel drizzled ice cream chocolate chip cookie. They sang and brought cupcakes with candles for the birthday girls. Always a treat to eat Greatly at the Whately.

“I really want to keep this place secret.......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

I really want to keep this place a secret, but it already has it's outstanding reputation!
Went there on a date. WOW! Did they ever deliver!
First getting there. Driving through what passes for downtown Whately takes you back in time to a better time in America's past. A time when things were simpler and nicer, a time when people worked hard, proudly took care of their properties and valued living in a small town.
Second, walking in. My date immediately said "This place just smells like 'real food'," and she was right!
We sat in the one of the booths in the bar area. Advise that side - it's a little more intimate and personal.
Third, the waitstaff were simply great.
Okay, now the food!
The rolls come out hot, with seasoning on top and painted in butter. You can add butter to the rolls, but you really don't need to. 10 out of 10.
The salad came out with fresh veggies in a colorful display. I'm not a salad guy, so I'll rate a 9 out of 10.
The soup. OMG..... we both got the roasted corn and lobster bisque. FANTASTIC!! 20 out of 10.
Au graten potatoes. I never knew that potatoes could taste THIS GOOD! I'm told that, near the holidays, you can bring in your own baking dish and that they will make the potatoes for you and you can pay for them and bring them home to serve to your family! 20 out of 10.
Entres: She had the baked stuff sole. Told me it was 10 out of 10. She even had enough left over to bring home in a doggie bag.
Me: PRIME RIB. I asked for medium/rare and I GOT medium/rare! Now, I also need to point out that, as a 6'5" 255 pound male, I often don't get enough prime rib when I order prime rib. However, at The Whately Inn, I ate my fill and still had enough to bring home in a doggie bag. NICE AND GENEROUS serving!! I must add that the seasoning on the prime rib was perfect and the au jus for the prime rib was also seasoned to perfection. The prime rib had just enough fat to make it all tender and delicious but not too much fat that took away from the quantity of the meat. I rate the prime rib as "Off The Chart incredible!"
I should also point out that I have good sized male friends that have ordered the lamb or other items on the menu. No one has ever complained about not having enough!! You get your monies worth! AND it's absolutely mouthwatering delicious!
To end the night the deserts were brought home in doggie bags.

Will ABSOLUTELY go back - repeatedly.

“Country Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Great home cooked food at a country Inn, with a lot of history and charm. Off Rt 5&10 in Whately. Good idea to make reservations.
