Although we live about 40 minutes away, we go to Marguerite's quite often because the food is so great. I am a clam chowder snob and theirs ranks in my top 5! The stuffed quahogs, "stuffies" as they call them are delicious and because there are 2 to the order, they are a great sharing starter along with the chowder. Daily specials are inventive and made with fresh ingredients and always include several entrees and sandwiches. The classic chicken pie ( all meat) has a wonderful gravy & flakey crust. My husband's favorite, Seafood Provencal is a pasta dish in a light tomato based sauce with scallops, shrimp and mussells and flavored with what is likely Herbs da Provence or Fine Herbs.Whatever the combination of herbs it is surely a delicious choice. Along with the chef's interesting entrees there are the staples like fish and chips, and even liver and onions. Side dishes are not run of the mill and there are usually 3 or 4 choices including the amazing butternut squash.
Now for dessert. I cannot say enough about the chocolate cream pie! Oh My ! It is the most delicious version of one of my favorites! Piled high with homemade chocolate filling and fresh whipped cream in a flakey, tasty and never overpowering crust. Unfortunately it is not on the menu all the time but if you're lucky enough to be there when it is offered, you need to try it. Apple crisp, strawberry shortcake are also yummy. The waitstaff are generally friendly especially if you are a regular. Jackie & Martha are always upbeat,& engaging, however there are one or two that could smile a bit more. There's almost always a wait to get in but it's certainly worth it. Treat yourself to a great place for lunch or dinner and I'm sure it will become one of your favorites as well.
