“Better Than a Boston Area Hotel Any Day!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2008

My husband and I enjoyed two nights in the Editor's Room during a B&B Fall Foliage New England Tour we'd planned for our seventh anniversary. The Inn is very lovely and is in a great location. It's a very easy (relatively speaking) drive into Boston on the Mass Turnpike.

The room was a little small, but still comfortable...especially since we spent most of our time roaming around Boston. For those used to living away from main streets, there is some street noise, but that was covered by our one of our favorite ways to sleep...the sound of the window A/C running in the background.

Deborah warmly greeted us at the door and provided wonderful hospitality the rest of our stay. We had made our own plans, including eating dim sum breakfast in Boston the first day, but Deborah encouraged us to eat some of her delicious sweet potato bread before we headed out.

We did get to enjoy her breakfast the next morning. The baked pear was an especially wonderful Fall morning treat! Her selection of teas and the scones are great, too.

Considering the price of hotels surrounding Boston (and the not-so-good condition of some of them), staying at the Sleigh Maker Inn is not only a more beautiful place to stay but also very economical - especially considering that you get such a delicious breakfast and gracious hospitality as well as a safe, clean, comfortable place to rest.

  • Liked — Deborah's hospitality and the very reasonable price
  • Disliked — Street noise could be a bit loud for those not used to street noise

We stayed at the Sleighmaker Inn after our wedding, in the sleighmaker's suite. The room was spacious with a very comfortable sleigh bed with tons of pillows. The bathroom was huge with a beautiful jacuzzi with underwater lights, surrounded by "LED" candles. Deborah makes her own soaps, too.

The innkeepers were most accommodating to our crazy schedule on our wedding day, and even left cookies out for our arrival.

The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious gourmet breakfast on the Inn's wraparound porch. The other guests had checked out early, so we were the only ones being served at the time.

We really had a wonderful time!

  • Liked — Great room/ jacuzzi

We stayed in the Sleigh Maker room, which was very tastefully done in Victorian style. The bedroom had plenty of space and the bathroom even more (housing a shower, Jacuzzi for two and separate side room for wc). Deborah was very nice and helpful, the breakfast room is cozy, breakfast was quite nice (coffee good enough to drink black, soft buckwheat waffles with blueberry/creme fresh topping, and a serving of poached apple and pear w/ a toping of ricotta cheese and dried cherry drizzled with pear juice).

  • Liked — Close proximity to both Worcester and western Boston while in a pretty low traffic area.

I have stayed in many small inns around the world, and would rate The Sleighmaker Inn as one over the very best. I stayed in the lovely Writer's Room, which is lovingly furnished with family heirlooms, and antiques collected by the owners over the years.
The inn has an excellent balance of romantic character and comfort, but it is the care that the innkeepers take to ensure that guests have a truly special experience which sets this inn way above the rest. Debra and JIm provide a level of welcome and service which will keep guests coming back year after year. In fact I heard that this inn is a well kept secret among regulars. Debra is an excellent cook, and turns breakfast into a culinary art. Guests are also able to snack on a variety of tasty home-made cookies and scones, throughout the day. As an English woman in the USA, I was really happy to find a wide variety of teas available. I loved this place. A truly memorable experience.

Had a wonderful one-night stay in the Writer's Room which is not overly large but beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The bathroom is charming with plenty of space for all my "stuff". Deborah also makes her own soaps, which were delightful. The breakfast was beautifully prepared with homemade scones, a fresh fruit "butterfly" and a very good veggie omelet, juice and coffee or tea. The afternoon of our arrival, Deborah made us fruit iced tea served with cookies which were just what was needed after a long drive. I would absolutely recommend the Sleigh Maker Inn and place it in the top 5 of the B & B's we have visited.

My husband and I stayed at the Sleighmaker Inn a few weeks ago in the Editor's room. The Inn is a beautiful new England century home with lots of character and beautiful landscaping. The Innkeepers were really warm and inviting. The room was spacious, immaculate, and tastfully decorated with antiques. The bathroom was modern and bright. We had a wonderful breakfast served to us on the porch. Overall, we had a great experience and we definitely would return!
