“Take the Time to Get There. Among the Best on the Island.”
Lambert's Cove Inn is off the beaten path. Literally. But it's more than worth the effort.
We have been there many times over many years, including dinner on 12/31/1999. (All the world's computers didn't fail that evening, although we were glad we were on Martha's Vineyard just in case they did.)
This time, off-island visitors invited us out for dinner as a gracious "thank you" for putting them up for a long weekend. (Hint: If you are a guest, visiting Martha's Vineyard residents, treating them to dinner is a nice thing to do. We like that. A lot.)
The food was fantastic. Perfectly prepared. I had the scallops. So did my wife. Our guests (or rather our hosts) ate heavier meals. All four of us were more than delighted. Dessert was scrumtious. (I never typed that word before. I hope I spelled it correctly.)
Service was very good. Not what you'd find in the best restaurants in major cities, but far above most of what you'd find on the Vineyard in the summer. Again, by a lot. The waitstaff's attention and enthusiasm made up for any minor decificiencies. They were quite charming.
After dinner, we took our guests for a brief tour of the inn. What a spectacular job the owners did, down to the most minute detail. A museum.
As MV residents, you would tend to forget about this place. Maybe the management's next marketing message should be, "Have you forgotten how good Lambert's Cove Inn really is? Try us again."
Yes we did, and now I DO remember.
