Stayed at the resort with 7 y.o. girls last weekend of August. Was a little concerned due to neg reviews of the room conditions. Overall, it was a very pleasant family place.
PROS - excellent beach location with sand for the kids, lots of lounge chairs, drink service, pretty view
kids really enjoyed children's program and the fact that the place was filled with other kids
breakfast pretty good
CONS - rooms are old with the world's tiniest bathrooms but have convenient features for families with terraces, spaces to store luggage, adjoining rooms, etc
Pool tiny and crowded but kids liked it anyway
Overall, a very nice place to take the family on the Cape

We found this location via Fodors and on-line. Thought that we could risk the chance, after all, how much time do you spend in your room?

Our family (2 adults + one four year old) arrived the last week of August '04. We stayed in "the lookout", consisting of one large room w/two beds and a bathroom. The accomodations were fine. Everything was clean upon arrival and maintained throughout the stay.

You can't compare the Lighthouse to a Wyndham resort, if you do, you'll be disappointed. Go to the Lighthouse Inn for a great location on the cape; because the staff is extremely kind and accommodating; you can choose between their small beach, the public beaches or the pool; the food is fine (we did the breakfast only) -- great lobster omelet; all of the children on site were enjoying playing on the spacious grounds and the playsets;

The pool has seen better days, but our 4 year old could not differentiate between an upscale resort pool and a comfortable time-worn pool. BTW they provide towels at the pool and lunch is also available.

Most important...our son enjoyed himself and no one is bothered by children because it is a family resort.

Would we return. Yes. (and we are picky!)

The Lighthouse INN is just charming! As a single parent, this was a wonderful place to stay! The restaurant food was awsome, and my little one was welcome. Breakfast is early, but worth getting up for. My daughter really enjoyed the childrens events. The staff also really added to our enjoyment. The rooms are not real fancy, but they are very clean. The Inn is also located in the middle of the cape, which made it convient to all attractions. We did day trips to Nantucket, Martha's V. and Province town. Check out the drive inn movies, the duck mobile, whale watching, and the glass shop. We are going again next year and bringing my parents!

We've been to many East Coast hotels and beaches including those at Wildwood, NJ, Cape May, Virginia Beach, Ocean City, and Rehoboth, but my 12 and 9 year old sons want to return to the Lighthouse Inn on Cape Cod every year. It's their favorite place. The Lighthouse Inn is a family place and my kids love meeting the other children who are there in droves. There is lots of entertainment for kids. When we were there this week there was bingo, a clown, a magician and a petting zoo. It's great to have the kids eat dinner with the kids program and have the adults dine alone upstairs looking out at the ocean. They have tons of things for kids of all ages including an InnKids program for younger children, a playground, volleyball, tennis, basketball, mini-golf, shuffle board, arcades and a game room filled with a pool table, air hockey and ping pong. You can also rent a boat or go jet skiing if you're into that. There's a heated pool and a laundry room not far away. You are steps away from a private beach or you can walk through the fence a few yards and go to the public beach at West Dennis. The private beach was so empty the kids were able to float in a raft near-by without disturbing anyone else. They had fun for hours. You can literally have lunch or dinner steps away from the ocean and they are located at a spot with breath-taking views of the coastline and magnificent sunsets. The food is wonderful with specials everyday and a terrific pastry chef. The breakfast buffet is generous and great as well but is served only between 8:00 and 9:30am which is limiting. The rooms are clean with a small frig and cable TV. The bathrooms are on the small side, but they do have larger ones in some of the rooms. The maid service is great and brought extras of anything we wanted quickly.
The rooms are in the style of an old fashioned cottage much like you'll find at Cape Cod. We loved it and were comfortable, but if you're looking for a room similar to a fancy hotel you won't find it here and I admit it's pricey. However, we took my parents this year and they loved it as well. It's charm and warmth are hard to beat. We've been there four times. We heard about this place from a neighbor who grew up in Cape Cod. Now other people on our street venture the 12 hour drive from Virginia to the Lighthouse Inn and I've never heard anyone go away disappointed. Their grounds are very isolated from the crowds on the rest of the Cape. We didn't want to leave.

Based on positive reviews from TripAdvisor, my wife and I scheduled three nights at the Lighthouse Inn. After driving 5 hours from Manhattan we arrived and the accomodations were absolutely unacceptable. The Inn is very old and run down, and our room was surprisingly bad. The door didnt shut properly as it was warped from humidity, the rug was filthy, there were no curtains on the windows but rather cheap plastic shades that didnt close properly (including one shade which fell on my wife when she pulled it) and the bathroom was old and dirty. This hotel may be acceptable for those who like to camp, but anyone who is used to pleasant/clean (not even sophisticated) accomodations will be very disappointed. In addition, at $240/night (I was told it was a $400 room...), this room was a joke. In addition, gentleman who works the midnight shift could not understand why we were unhappy so dont expect a lot of sympathy if you are unhappy. They did eventually give us our money back.
