“Faded glory”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

We went here looking for the lighthouse rather than an Inn!! It was quite a surprise when we realised that the Bass River lighthouse is actually an hotel/restaurant. Its history - originally intended to be a lighthouse, which by a series of circumstances grew into a hotel does indeed have a functioning light at the top of the building. Apparently recomissioned by the US Coastguard back in the 1980s it is one of a few private lights still serving its purpose today. There is a beach at the rear of the hotel & a number of cottages etc. on the land. The Inn is huge & we liked the verandah overlooking the beach & promenade very much... It is a faded glory, back in the day when vacationing at Cape Cod was reserved for well paid professionals & people of private means we could imagine what a wonderful place it must have been. We decided to have lunch, which was acceptable but very expensive for what it was. The wait staff were lovely. Having been once, we probably would not go again.

My sister and I traveled to this inn based on a friend's recommendation. The price was reasonable and we had our own private cottage with 2 br and 2 baths. The fireplace in living room was lovely. Unfortunately, we had a number of incidents that impacted our experience negatively. However, staff and the owner tried their very best to rectify the problems and even credited one night. Our cottage had been vacant during the winter season and when it was opened for our stay, it was not cleaned properly. Therefore, we had bugs (ugh), dirty linens and and not the level of cleanliness one expects at an inn vacation. The beachfront had lots of seaweed and was not appealing to even walk on to dip our toes in. To our dismay, the dining room was not open for dinner yet as it was too early in the season so we were on our own to get dinner out our first night. Despite the problems, management worked to fix them to the best of their ability. We used the public beach next store but there are no beach chairs to rent. The pool at the inn was heated and nice. I would say it's ok to go here but don't expect luxury accomodations by any means.

Room Tip: Choose an oceanfront cottage - it's really the best. However, it has limitations - see above.

Families with young children may enjoy this place due to the beach, pool, and other recreational facilities BUT the room was more like a monk's cell than a hotel room (bed, 3 drawer chest, no closet, 1 chair), the towels were thin and scratchy. The restaurant was really awful -- the food reminded me of a college cafeteria.

Just got back from yet another great visit to the Lighthouse Inn. Everything was wonderful as always. Friendly service, great food, perfect weather (OK, that doesn't always happen!), water sports, greetings from the Stone family, fun with my own family, falling asleep to the sound of the waves, You get the picture.... Thank you Lighthouse Inn staff for making our stay special.

Room Tip: Website does a great job of letting you know which rooms have better views, which are ocean-front, e...

we had a lovely getaway!!!! the staff was very nice but they were kind of slow when we went to the waterfront the resturant their. It took more than a half and hour to get our food so the waiter offered a drink or dessert on the house. Its great being so close to the water and the Inn had a private little beach wich was a huge plus. The sand was so soft and they already had chairs out for you too sit on at the beach .Another thing that was great was the pool wich had a pool snack bar wich was good . . overall it was a great vist :)

We just returned from yet another wonderful stay at this beautiful facility. Being able to see the ocean from our living quarters, hear the great sound, and smell the enticing scent of it, was just the icing on the cake. The water was great, the facility is so clean and the employees treat you like family. It is so relaxing to be able to feel at home and still enjoy the things that you don't have at home. Such a great place for families, couples, singles!!!!! Truly a "home away from home". The buffet breakfast goes on forever and is superb. Also, being able to order off the menu in addition to the buffet is such a bonus. If you want to relax and enjoy a wonderful vacation, this is the place to go!!!

As a longtime guest of the Lighthouse Inn, I have decided after this past June, I will not be returning. The Inn has deteriorated dramatically over the past 15 years. The rooms are dirty, towels and sheets are unacceptable, toletries and soaps are cheap and unusable. The carpet in the main house in main stairway is filthy as is the wallpaper. The food is inedible. Old Cape charm is one thing....this is not that....this is overpriced, run down and downright dirty.
