We've been to many East Coast hotels and beaches including those at Wildwood, NJ, Cape May, Virginia Beach, Ocean City, and Rehoboth, but my 12 and 9 year old sons want to return to the Lighthouse Inn on Cape Cod every year. It's their favorite place. The Lighthouse Inn is a family place and my kids love meeting the other children who are there in droves. There is lots of entertainment for kids. When we were there this week there was bingo, a clown, a magician and a petting zoo. It's great to have the kids eat dinner with the kids program and have the adults dine alone upstairs looking out at the ocean. They have tons of things for kids of all ages including an InnKids program for younger children, a playground, volleyball, tennis, basketball, mini-golf, shuffle board, arcades and a game room filled with a pool table, air hockey and ping pong. You can also rent a boat or go jet skiing if you're into that. There's a heated pool and a laundry room not far away. You are steps away from a private beach or you can walk through the fence a few yards and go to the public beach at West Dennis. The private beach was so empty the kids were able to float in a raft near-by without disturbing anyone else. They had fun for hours. You can literally have lunch or dinner steps away from the ocean and they are located at a spot with breath-taking views of the coastline and magnificent sunsets. The food is wonderful with specials everyday and a terrific pastry chef. The breakfast buffet is generous and great as well but is served only between 8:00 and 9:30am which is limiting. The rooms are clean with a small frig and cable TV. The bathrooms are on the small side, but they do have larger ones in some of the rooms. The maid service is great and brought extras of anything we wanted quickly.
The rooms are in the style of an old fashioned cottage much like you'll find at Cape Cod. We loved it and were comfortable, but if you're looking for a room similar to a fancy hotel you won't find it here and I admit it's pricey. However, we took my parents this year and they loved it as well. It's charm and warmth are hard to beat. We've been there four times. We heard about this place from a neighbor who grew up in Cape Cod. Now other people on our street venture the 12 hour drive from Virginia to the Lighthouse Inn and I've never heard anyone go away disappointed. Their grounds are very isolated from the crowds on the rest of the Cape. We didn't want to leave.
