We've been to many East Coast hotels and beaches including those at Wildwood, NJ, Cape May, Virginia Beach, Ocean City, and Rehoboth, but my 12 and 9 year old sons want to return to the Lighthouse Inn on Cape Cod every year. It's their favorite place. The Lighthouse Inn is a family place and my kids love meeting the other children who are there in droves. There is lots of entertainment for kids. When we were there this week there was bingo, a clown, a magician and a petting zoo. It's great to have the kids eat dinner with the kids program and have the adults dine alone upstairs looking out at the ocean. They have tons of things for kids of all ages including an InnKids program for younger children, a playground, volleyball, tennis, basketball, mini-golf, shuffle board, arcades and a game room filled with a pool table, air hockey and ping pong. You can also rent a boat or go jet skiing if you're into that. There's a heated pool and a laundry room not far away. You are steps away from a private beach or you can walk through the fence a few yards and go to the public beach at West Dennis. The private beach was so empty the kids were able to float in a raft near-by without disturbing anyone else. They had fun for hours. You can literally have lunch or dinner steps away from the ocean and they are located at a spot with breath-taking views of the coastline and magnificent sunsets. The food is wonderful with specials everyday and a terrific pastry chef. The breakfast buffet is generous and great as well but is served only between 8:00 and 9:30am which is limiting. The rooms are clean with a small frig and cable TV. The bathrooms are on the small side, but they do have larger ones in some of the rooms. The maid service is great and brought extras of anything we wanted quickly.
The rooms are in the style of an old fashioned cottage much like you'll find at Cape Cod. We loved it and were comfortable, but if you're looking for a room similar to a fancy hotel you won't find it here and I admit it's pricey. However, we took my parents this year and they loved it as well. It's charm and warmth are hard to beat. We've been there four times. We heard about this place from a neighbor who grew up in Cape Cod. Now other people on our street venture the 12 hour drive from Virginia to the Lighthouse Inn and I've never heard anyone go away disappointed. Their grounds are very isolated from the crowds on the rest of the Cape. We didn't want to leave.

Based on positive reviews from TripAdvisor, my wife and I scheduled three nights at the Lighthouse Inn. After driving 5 hours from Manhattan we arrived and the accomodations were absolutely unacceptable. The Inn is very old and run down, and our room was surprisingly bad. The door didnt shut properly as it was warped from humidity, the rug was filthy, there were no curtains on the windows but rather cheap plastic shades that didnt close properly (including one shade which fell on my wife when she pulled it) and the bathroom was old and dirty. This hotel may be acceptable for those who like to camp, but anyone who is used to pleasant/clean (not even sophisticated) accomodations will be very disappointed. In addition, at $240/night (I was told it was a $400 room...), this room was a joke. In addition, gentleman who works the midnight shift could not understand why we were unhappy so dont expect a lot of sympathy if you are unhappy. They did eventually give us our money back.

Hi. My family and I just returned from a week at the Lighthouse Inn. We arranged for a 2 bedroom cottage & purchased a "meal plan" for breakfast and dinner at the on-site restaurant.

At first, my husband was less than enthusiastic about the cottage. It was weathered and the amenities were basic "rental beach house" type.
But I noted immediately, that the cottage was sparkling clean. Each bedroom had its own bath (and with kids, that's important.) The color tv had cable and there was a small refrigerator.

Just outside our door was the playground - where my kids spent a great amount of time and met with their first new "friends."

After an excellent buffet breakfast (served early - 8 to 9:15), we headed to the West Dennis public beach, which runs along side the Inn's property. (The Inn also has a private beach, but it was mostly grass.
There wasn't a great deal of sandy shore line. It was far better to spread our neat sheets on the sandy public beach, and, for the height of summer, it wasn't overly crowded.) We walked to the public beach - it's that close.

Our trip to the beach was followed by a swim in the Inn's pool. This pool is great for small children. I has a large area that's only 3 ft deep. My 2, 3, & 5 yr olds had a terrific time. There is no lifeguard on duty, however.

After the pool, we played either a round of miniature golf (I note that the course can use some serious updating - it's dilapidated. My kids didn't mind, however), or shuffle board (this was great fun.)

Finally, we returned to our cottage to get ready for dinner. What a treat to eat each night at the resort. Not having to drag 3 small kids to restaurants was a pleasure. It was well worth the cost. (My 5 yr old had to go "poop" during 2 dinner meals and it was so easy just to take him back to the room.) The dinner menu was very good. The specials (different offerings each day) were excellent. Not included with the meal plan were bar orders for drinks.

There is an "Inn Kids" program that we weren't involved in this year.
We didn't realize that the Inn also offers babysitter services for parents who want to go out. Ahhh, maybe next year.

Every night the Inn provided various fun activities. One night there was a great petting zoo. Another night, there was a magician.

The best part was smelling the sea air every evening while in bed with the windows wide open. The breeze is invigorating!! My kids slept best with that sea air.

Finally, the Inn offers to re-register you for the same accomodations for the same week the following year. (We did this.) This reserves your spot for the next year. It's a terrific service if you like the place.
It's free.

We loved the Inn. We reserved our place for next summer. We're already talking about it, and we only arrived home today!!! Hope you enjoy The Lighthouse Inn as much as me and my family have.

Good luck.
