I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in late April/early May and chose it because of its reviews on TripAdvisor and the price. I didn't use the fitness center so I can't comment on that but here's the rest:

Pros:
-PRICE - insanely cheap for what you get and for the Boston area
-Large room (I booked a double but they upgraded me to a king)
-Wifi was dependable and fast (and free!)
-complimentary breakfast: extensive selection of eggs, toast, muffins, cinnamon rolls, coffee, cereal, etc.
-easy check in/check out
-AC worked very well in room
-I stayed during the pipe burst in Boston (couldn't drink tap water) but the hotel instantly got on it and bought tons of (free) bottled water for guests
-couldn't hear noise from the parking lot
-good water pressure/temperature/cleanliness of shower
-comfy bed

Cons:
-seemed like the AC didn't work in the hallways...they were sweltering! room AC worked well though
-bathroom was a bit small, but not a big deal
-doors are loud....you can definitely hear other people close their doors
-toilets are loud

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2010

Over the years we've stayed in 4 of the hotels in this little off-ramp cluster near I-95, and this one is the best value so far. It's a bit tricky to navigate in this area due to the road construction for the on/off ramps for I-95, and the torrential rains were causing flooding by the South 95 on-ramp.

We used our points for this stay, but it would've been only $84 anyway. Check-in was a breeze, and the clerk was very friendly and polite. Also, as we were using our Reward Points, he didn't act all put-out about it, as happened to us recently at a Marriott. They even gave us some chips and water bottle gratis.

The room was a huge corner room, very clean and well laid out, with plenty of lights. The bathroom, unfortunately, was very cramped but also clean. The heat was good, and quiet too. The bedding is that white luxurious kind, with lots of various pillows and soft comforter. Free wifi, fridge, nice desk/work area. No complaints at all.

Breakfast is better than most, with the usual cereals, yogurt, bananas, breads and also fresh scrambled eggs, sausage. Very pleasant breakfast attendant, too.

We'll pick this one next time!

We have stayed here several times as my son is a student at Bentley University. First come up from Long Island in the fall of 2006 to visit the school and area and have stayed several times since. Always clean and quiet, front desk staff helpful. Stayed at two other places in the area through Hotwire but decided to stick with Holiday Inn until he graduates. Just came back from Family Weekend at Bentley and realized that I hadn't written a review. They now include complimentary hot breakfast which is nice. Prices are great also.

Stayed here for two nights for business. Very convenient and easy to find. Hotel right off of I-95. Check in was professional and quick. Rooms are clean with microwave and refrigerator. Heating system was a bit noisy but functioned properly. There is a gym on the premise with adequate equipment. Breakfast was very satisfactory with choices of pastries, cereal, bread, yogurt, fruit, eggs, and bacon. There is also a station for complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day. Only problem was difficulty in getting wireless internet access in hotel room. However, this might be a compatibility issue with a macbook. not sure. There is a computer and printer downstairs in the lobby. Not a bad choice if you need to be in Boston but do not want to pay high hotel prices. It is fast ride by car into Cambridge via Rt 2 or going to Boston via I-90. Would definitely stay here again

We were in for one night to visit Brandeis University, a short drive. Arrived late. Desk staff helpful. The "formula" for Holiday Inn Express is very well executed here. The place is nicely laid out. The rooms are clean, and new and have what you need -- wifi that works, decent desk, a small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. Nice touch: firm and soft pillows on the bed; you pick what you like. The room was quiet; no noise from hall or neighboring rooms. Exercise room was small, but had enough machines. Breakfast was ok: premade tray of scrambled eggs, bacon, toaster with choice of breads and bagels, cereals, etc. Breakfast room was bright and clean. Easy exit.

Overall - an "A" experience

My wife and two teens just came back from a 3 night stay at the HI Express/Waltham. We were visiting colleges in the Boston area for my son, and this is the perfect location.

Here's my review:

Complimentary breakfast - selection of three cereals, OJ and Apple Juice, breads, muffins, bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon and various flavors of yogurt. Regular and skim milk are offered.

Rooms - spacious (about 15' x 20'), and well lit. Our room included refrig. & microwave.

Hallways - wide and well lit

Shower - good water pressure, but water gets warm at best, not hot enough for a nice hot shower. Bathroom is nice size - about 6' x 6' excluding the bath/shower.

Towels - good size, fairly thick

Two Double Beds - Very comfortable

Room curtains - kept the room nice and dark in the morning

Staff- friendly - they went out of their way to accommodate us - they had no problem cashing $100 in travelers' checks or providing us with extra bath towels.

Workout room- nice equipment - treadmill, two stairmasters, reclining bike, upper and lower body weight stations.

Hotel location - we felt very safe, hotel is convenient to I-95

Liked — Large, Clean, comfortable room

Disliked — Water temp. in shower was warm at best. This is the only thing keeping this hotel being rated as an "A" and not an "A+" experience.
