“Too much garlic!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Went by the other evening to give it another shot. There were people waiting and getting very cranky. Two of the groups waiting both had wrong orders. I ordered the mac and cheese and broccoli. It has too much garlic! To my good old American taste, neither of these foods need garlic. I put the leftovers in the frig and the whole frig smelled like garlic. Their baked goods are great and some of their pasta salads, but as a whole, I would only recommend it if you have the time and you like garlic. I think they have recently changed hands, not sure. They have a varied menu, and the food may sound all-American but it all seems to have an ethnic twist. I just don't like that much garlic.

“yummy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

We stopped at the Scottish Bakehouse because many of our friends had eaten there over the years and told us we had to go. Home cooking with fresh ingredients and a friendly staff. They had everything you could dream of.....an amazing pastry case, a wonderful menu and something for everyone...gluten free, vegan, vegetarian as well as meat options. It seems as though they use a lot of local, island, produce and meat....most of which comes from there sweet garden out back. As we waited for our meals we watched the kitchen as they were canning some local hot peppers and local figs. We bought a jar of pear butter from last years harvest which the counter staff told me was from one of the certified organic farms on the island.....really cool stuff is happening here!

“Food good but DO NOT eat outside.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

The Scottish Bakehouse over the past few years has been the go to place for great and interesting food. Both Vegetarian, Vegan and gluten free options are offered among meatloaf and great breakfasts (yes-cheese- bacon, etc). The food has seen just a light downside but still terrific and worth the stop. (Their menu is on-line) The service is very pleasant albeit the wait time at lunch is long with benches outside to wait and picnic table to eat on. THIS, is where the review gets bad -- Eating outside has become truly disgusting. They have 5 square picnic tables that are never cleaned. To make it worse because they are not treated or painted, all the dust from their parking lot (which is a lot) and the dirt from the main road (again a lot) are imbedded in the tables. So you are eating on food crumbs, with dust and dirt engrained in the wood. The grounds are never raked and this review is finally happening because I sat down at one of those tables (and it was the cleanest available), looked down and saw dog feces nestled into the leg of the seat. To say I lost my appetite is an understatement. Be clear that I go there a lot with our dogs (no longer) and I do feel it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of what happens. But it is clear that the proprietors do not spend close to what they should (if any time at all) making sure that the grounds are kept up and as sanitary as the situation can be. I'm fairly certain if the health department looked at outside seating, they would not get an acceptable grade.

“Picnic lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Busy place but worth the confusion. This is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat. You can eat out on the picnic tables or take it to go. Sandwiches and wraps are made with fresh local ingredients. Be sure to save room for a cookie or two.
