“Very impressed!”

The Clark House

Apr 23, 2007

I recently stayed at the Clark House for one night in the Vineyard Suite. I must say, for being a bed & breakfast, the suite was very spacious and clean and the rest of the house was well maintained, accommodating and made one feel at home. Lisa was very helpful upon arrival with information on things to do and modes of transportation. And the breakfast was excellent. I was expecting a simple continental breakfast, but boy was I mistaken, it was delicious and very filling. Overall...TWO THUMBS UP!

As a scrapbook consultant, for the past five years I have brought a group of customers to the Clark House for a weekend retreat. I have toyed with the idea of staying on the mainland or seeking a larger venue.

NO! The Clark House is MY place on the first weekend in March. And Lisa and Bud make it feel like it is my house for the weekend. Lisa goes out of her way to make sure we have everything we need. She gives excellent customer service by helping me give excellent customer service. The rooms are so comfortable and everything is just like she knows we like it.

I just about have a full returning customer group for next year so instead of seeking a larger venue (they want to go to the Clark House) I will add a second weekend instead!!

Very nice Inn in a great location walking distance from ferry stop and great breakfast in the morning. For the price it is a great value... rooms can be a little close but it is a very homey bed and breakfast and very quaint. I will be going back soon.

“Clark House Inn, a home away from home.”

The innkeeper Lisa has just the right touch of being a host but giving you your space to make your own plans.

The house is very convenient to the downtown of Vineyard Haven, the most "real town" on the island, with a nice diversity of visitors and island year-round residents encompassing all walks of life - artisans, plumbers, lawyers, merchants, and therapists.

Lisa and Bud have been installing a wide range of capital improvements since they took over, so that each season the home and yard get some more improvements. For example, they have recently purchased an entire arsenal of brand new high-quality bicycles, kept in Bud's meticulously restored garage-workshop, so that all guests can cycle the island without bringing their own or renting locally.

So, the property and location are wonderful, but probably the best feature of all is the tailored hospitality and "touring consultation" that Lisa provides her guests, particularly those new to the Vineyard. After casually and comfortably quizzing them about their preferences in the touring and eating categories, she will then point out just the right combination of island places and restaurants to match their tastes.

As the Clark House Inn motto goes, "their aim is to create memories", and that they do, for everyone that crosses their home as strangers, but leave as friends. More than a vacation getaway - a home and a host providing a wonderful Martha's Vineyard experience, leaving you wanting to return again and again, as I and my friends have over the past three years since discovering them.

“A rainy visit to Martha's Vineyard”

We stayed at the Clark House on Martha’s Vineyard for three days. The house is conveniently located, and the room was comfortable. Lisa adds a personal touch by hanging a tapestry with your initial on your door. We stayed in the Chilmark Room which is on the top floor and features a small bathroom. Unfortunately, we were not greeted when we arrived and had to find our own way around. After we were settled in, about twenty minutes later, we were met by Joyce (staff member). We explained to Joyce we were a little lost and we have never visited Martha’s Vineyard before. We received a map of the island on the ferry but it was not very detailed. Joyce was rushed giving us directions. Even laughing at our inability to locate where we wanted to go.She could not provide us with another map so we had to figure it out with the map we had. When we arrived back from our first outing to Edgartown, (we found it!) we were met by the innkeeper Lisa. She greeted us and apologized that she could not be there when we arrived. She had a family member visiting from out of town. We had home baked cookies and a variety of beverages to choose from. In the morning, we were delighted with our home made breakfast on the lovely porch. Lisa recommended a few restaurants and sites for our visit. She was very helpful. We enjoyed our trip to Martha’s Vineyard even though the weather was rainy the whole time we were there. I would recommend staying at the Clark House. Just bring a good map!
