The innkeeper Lisa has just the right touch of being a host but giving you your space to make your own plans.
The house is very convenient to the downtown of Vineyard Haven, the most "real town" on the island, with a nice diversity of visitors and island year-round residents encompassing all walks of life - artisans, plumbers, lawyers, merchants, and therapists.
Lisa and Bud have been installing a wide range of capital improvements since they took over, so that each season the home and yard get some more improvements. For example, they have recently purchased an entire arsenal of brand new high-quality bicycles, kept in Bud's meticulously restored garage-workshop, so that all guests can cycle the island without bringing their own or renting locally.
So, the property and location are wonderful, but probably the best feature of all is the tailored hospitality and "touring consultation" that Lisa provides her guests, particularly those new to the Vineyard. After casually and comfortably quizzing them about their preferences in the touring and eating categories, she will then point out just the right combination of island places and restaurants to match their tastes.
As the Clark House Inn motto goes, "their aim is to create memories", and that they do, for everyone that crosses their home as strangers, but leave as friends. More than a vacation getaway - a home and a host providing a wonderful Martha's Vineyard experience, leaving you wanting to return again and again, as I and my friends have over the past three years since discovering them.
