“Oh Joy, A Great Find”

The 1720 House is one of my favorite places . I stayed for a number of days in December and loved every minute. The island is cold but interesting...good food, great films, and art shows. We walked on the beach with windbreakers and came back to the property to find hot chocolate and cookies. Everyone was helpful, cordial and friendly. Its a really romantic place to stay.

From the moment we stepped thru the door of The 1720 House we felt happy and knew we would be well taken care of. We loved the decor, simple and tasteful with some fine antique furniture. lovely scented pine candles provided a soothing aroma. The rooms were comfortable and the beds cozy with down comforters.
The property is a few blocks from the center of Vineyard Haven and shops with good merchandise were open and the best independent book store I've been to. Its my favorite town on the island ....quiet ...close to the ferry.
Its special. Stay there....they will make sure you get to the most interesting sites on the island. They can arrange passes to a nearby pool (heated) and health club.

Room Tip: We stayed in the blue and brown room with a shared bathroom and loved both. All the other rooms have...

This was my very first time ever staying in a B&B and I must admit I was apprehensive at first, being a private "hotel" kind of person. This experience has now changed me forever. I realized the charm and "homey" feeling that a well-run B&B can offer and the 1720 House has to rank as high as they go. The location is perfect, just a short walk to town, the pier and all of the great shops. Abby was a most gracious and accommodating hostess and she made sure that everything was run to perfection, helped no end by her excellent manager Lucinda. We stayed in both the Garden Room and gorgeous Lincoln Room and both were excellent. It was a wonderful way to fully enjoy all of the beauty and magic of the Vineyard and I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Start with the Lincoln Room, which is on the ground floor, has a private bath and is just beautiful.

The 1720 House... Found it on TripAdvisor as we were looking for a quiet, pretty, place to stay while we attended a family reunion over Columbus Weekend.
Upon arriving, it was late due to a flight-delay, we found a welcome note and our room key waiting for us in the foyer. We got to the room - Garden Room (definitely ask for it! - and even my husband approved of the decor! HAPPY!
The next morning, we stumbled down to breakfast... Fresh bread (local!!), plenty of coffee, and a side yard with comfortable chairs in which to enjoy it in? HAPPIER!
The reunion was really great. The Vineyard was such the perfect place to see everyone.
We were so tired on Monday...A quick call by the owner, and a cab rolled up to the Inn and took us to the ferry. As we climbed into the cab, the owner said to make sure we called her directly to book our next stay and that she'd make sure we got the Garden Room: HAPPIEST!

Room Tip: Garden Room! So pretty!

Found our keys to rooms with a polite note on table when we arrived. rooms where clean but tiny and not very comfortable a slight whiff of cigarettes throughut gave the impression of unclean, but to be honest it was s busy and cluttered with stuff you I felt constrained by it
Breakfast was a dissapintment to say the least with lts of hand written ntes saying please d this, dont do that etc. we where quite pleased t get out the house to be honest
We shall not be going back

We've stayed in lots of B&B's based on Tripadvisor ratings and customer reviews. We've never been disappointed, until now. The 1720 House definitely does not measure up. The owner and staff were inattentive and the facility isn't all that well kept. The place smells like cigarette smoke (further digging reveals other customer complaints about the smoke odor). The breakfast was uninspired and included "fresh" fruit that was well past its useful date. We've experienced better B&B's with lower ratings.

It's like staying with friends! Abby, the owner and Lucinda, the house manager are like family (the good one's). They are there to pamper and satisfy your every need to make your visit a most enjoyable experience. The entire house, common areas such as the living room, sitting room, screened porch, and dining room as well as the quest rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean and cheery. Lawns, flowers, and a great sitting area under a big tree on the side yard provide peace and beauty. Looking to walk around Vineyard Haven and explore the sites and shops, just walk out the front door and you're on Main Street at the residential section just a block or two from the shopping area. At a loss as to what to do, just ask Abby or Lucinda. Having lived on Martha's Vineyard for many years they know all the good places to go.

Room Tip: The Lincoln Room on the main floor is exceptional! Also the Garden Room was most enjoyable. Both r...
