“Good and Pretty Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2014

Call a full day ahead for reservations in season. The Raw Bar Sampler starter was great and works for 4 people. The Pork and Clams and Crab Cakes were also well made and flavorful. Figure $60 per person. The view of the pond and salt marsh are very nice at sunset.

“A Fabulous Vinyard Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

When we arrived at Martha's Vineyard our goal was to delve into the Vinyard culinary expirance immediately. So we choose Saltwater as our first choice to have our first dinner during our week long stay. For appetizers we indulged their chilled seafood raw bar platter of little neck clams, oysters and chilled lobsters. It was fresh, sweet and delicious. Three of us ordered the chefs inspired Portuguese Pork shoulder and clams which was very well put together and very tasty. The ambiance is wonderful and the staff is pleasant. A must while visiting Martha's Vineyard.

“Lovely setting, but not perfect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014 via mobile

I had higher expectations for an establishment at which dinner and drinks for 2 (with tip) nears $200. The Saltwater staff were personable and attentive. Overall, the food was very fresh, but the swordfish was overcooked slightly, and my $40 steak was quite a let down (wrong cut, cooked slightly over temp led to a tough, bland bite), The potato mash and Guinness cake were the stars. Generally, the dinner would have been better if only it were properly seasoned with salt while prepared. Also, there were a few cobwebs around the perimeter of the dining room that could've been cleaned from an otherwise appealing space

“vineyard fave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

We came on a Saturday night with no reservation. No problem! -have a seat at the bar, where one interacts with very cheerful and able staff, and observe the shucking ritual. The room is so appealing with high, high ceilings and a view of the saltwater pond; tables and banquettes not crowded together. Local beer available. we had oysters, salmon and steak, plus a tender piece of pork and clams cooked a la portuguese that was outstanding. All a prelude to our favorite dessert, creme brulee, which, while delicious, seemed to have been prepared in a too-shallow vessel, making for a little too brulee and a thin-ish creme. They used to serve lunch, which is sorely missed. I love this room, any time of day.

“Best Restaurant on the Vineyard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

I have never had a bad meal here. Everything is superbly cooked - the oysters I had last night were sweet and tasted as if they had just come out of the water, the soft shell crab was cooked to perfection. The piece de resistance is the dessert: salted vanilla ice-cream with caramel sauce. Definitely save room for that - big enough to share, but you won't want to- it is quite extraordinary.
Lovely light airy interior, great view, good service.
