“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2009

Comfortable and cozy; picturesque and convenient. The owners and staff were friendly and polite and the breakfasts were promptly served and delicious whether taken indoors or on the porch. Our room #7 was beautifully furnished and sitting room was great. Being directly above the kitchen you could hear staff conversation sometimes. The wild turkeys in the yard were cool and the cats were nice. They also have pet parakeets.
My wife and I would definitely re-visit the Doctor's House.

Escaped to this B&B for a Valentine's weekend based on a friend's recommendation. First impressions were good: large private grounds, close to the center of town, big living spaces, and clean while at the same time feeling "lived in" (family and guests passed through from time to time). Our room was fairly quiet and offered plenty of space to settle into. The owner was friendly and left us alone. They definitely don't skimp on the breakfast, with a lot of variety and choices. Overall a nice B&B. You can tell that the place is well cared for and is a good getaway from the bustle of the city.

Just spent a lovely weekend at The Doctor's House, in Vineyard Haven, and couldn't wait to rave about it! The house itself is gorgeous, the public spaces are well decorated, sophisticated, and inviting and our room was large, but cozy, and having our own full bathroom was great. In my experience, that's not always a given with B&B's! That's the Bed, now for the Breakfast! This really blew us away - Eggs Benedict!?!? And it was delicious! There was a great selection of choices, everything from the typical continental fare (yummy fresh baked muffins) to made-to-order eggs - including Eggs Benedict - and a fresh plate of cut fruit! And delicious coffee, always a litmus test for us, and the Doctor's House coffee passed with flying colors! Everything was delicious, everything was beautiful, it was truly a mini-vacation! The whole atmosphere and high quality of everything allowed us to completely enjoy every minute of our stay there and considering it can be somewhat stressful to get to Martha's Vineyard, it was wonderful to be able to truly relax, in the delicious hospitality of The Doctor's House! We hope to return soon!

We have just returned from a 5-night stay at the Doctor's House Bed& Breakfast and would highly recommend it. The grounds are beautiful and the house is comfortable and very well-kept. Located minutes by foot from Main St in Vineyard Haven, this b&b is peaceful and the perfect place to return to after a long day of biking, beaching and sight seeing. Each morning, we looked forward to a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit & juice, muffins straight from the oven, and strong coffee that will please even the most particular of coffee connoisseurs (which we are). Breakfast also included a main course of your choice, such as eggs benedict, french toast, yogurt & granola parfait, etc. We set of on our day's adventure with full tummies and a good dosage of caffeine.
If you don't want to lug your bicycles on the ferry, the b&b has several different bikes available for guests to borrow during their stay.
Jilana and her staff were also very friendly and helpful.
We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay at Doctor's House when we vacation on the Vineyard again.

There is very little to fault about this beautiful B & B. The 2-acre property is meticulously landscaped, the rooms are large and well-furnished, the breakfast is delicious, the several large common rooms are comfortable and full of books and games, and the hostess is knowledgeable and friendly. And, it's on a quiet side street- no noise. About a one-mile walk to downtown Vineyard Haven. We stayed in Room 5, which is on the second floor, (as are all the rooms) and is a corner room with large windows on both outside walls, overlooking the gardens. Highly recommended! ps- See their website for photos; no need for us to add any.

The past weekend was a quiet, relaxing, and delicious journey to Martha's Vineyard because of the Doctor's House. Nestled away from town but a stone's throw away, the grounds allowed us to "get away from it all" while still being able to take advantage of all of the charms and attractions of Martha's Vineyard. The room was cozy, clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was excellent. I had the eggs benedict and they were terrific!! Fruit, muffins, scones, and delicious fresh-brewed coffee with the eggs benedict was a lot of great breakfast. Eating out on the porch with the view of grounds was almost beatific. Definitiely would come back next week or next summer if possible.

  • Liked — The room was very comfortable and relaxing in design; location was perfect.
  • Disliked — Vineyard Haven is a dry town.

I'll start with the positive - great location on a quite street and the grounds are beautiful. It has a giant tree in the yard that is just pure magic. Easy walk to the city center of Vineyard Haven. Unfortunately, that's all the positive I have to report. The interior to the house smelled like cat pee.

We were welcomed by being told that we arrived too early and can place our things in a public area by the front door.

When we returned at 5:30pm, our things were still in the front room.
the breakfast consisted of a nice muffin, a burnt cup of coffee (when I asked for another cup, I was told that was all they had) rotten fruit and one piece of delicious french toast.

The room cost us over $250 a night and there were broken shower handles.

We've stayed at many b&d's and this is the first time I felt the value of what we got did not match the price- I'm sure you could probably do better than this place.
