Nice place for a holiday on Martha's Vineyard. Good location and base for exploring the island. Clean and comfortable rooms with excellent breakfast. Quiet rooms and common sitting areas. Important to book a hire car for the time you're there.

The owner Jilana is an excellent hostess. We arrived here in June and had so much fun we decided to come back in September. The house is only 5 minutes from resturants and local shops so there is plenty to see and do.The home is very large yet coozy at the same time It has a true New England charm. We found fresh flowers throughout the home which my wife really liked. With most B&B's you don't expect a four star breakfast however here your served like a King and Queen. There are seven rooms all a bit different. Just tell Jilana what you need and she'll take good of you.
Sincerely
Michael F

My husband and I just had a lovely stay at this B&B. We stayed in room 6 which has a double bed and small bathroom with shower/tub. This room is very small, but it came with a lower price tag. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were heavenly and the room decorated very tastefully. It had a nice ceiling fan and A/C control. We left our windows open and it was so nice. The shower/tub was standard, but very clean. The water pressure and high temp was incredible!!! The house is very nice and the grounds are beautifully. The enormous oak in the yard is amazing! Upon arriving at the house we were greeted by the owners sweet dog Lexi. She is precious and I honestly miss seeing her. The outdoor cat was also very friendly. Juliana, the Innkeeper was also very nice. No, she is not the hovering over the top friendly innkeeper that the past reviewers have mentioned. She is honestly a breath of fresh air. I really felt like I have known her for years. She is very honest and offers assistance upon request. She recommended an excellent restaurant (Moxie) to us and always provided us with assistance when asked. She is not going to seek you out. If you need assistance it is best to reach her before noon and she is will happily assist you. She does leave later in the day and returns later in the evening. However, the house becomes your own and you will not feel her presence. We did not see her in the evening. However, we appreciated the privacy greatly, but some folks may prefer someone who is more accessible. Personally, if you need this much assistance than a B&B may not be the right place for you to stay. B&B's do not have a concierge. Juliana provides a well furnished house, a homemade breakfast and comfortable relaxing clean rooms. If you need more than that go elsewhere.

The house is decorated very tastefully and it is very clean. The main rooms are relaxing and airy. The dining area is very welcoming. I loved that she had more than one table to eat at. My husband and I like dining at our own table and she has two small tables and a large 6 top inside and then small bistro tables on the outdoor porch. We ate outside and it was awesome. We had a view of the large oak tree and all her gorgeous flower boxes aligning the porch. Lexi the dog always sat with us and we loved every minute of her company.Breakfast was great! The coffee is delicious and she overs 5 homemade choices for breakfast ie. eggs benedict, eggs and bacon, yogurt parfait, crossiant french toast. The meal also comes with a choice of muffins and scones and a fruit platter. We ate the egg benedict 3 days in a row. Yes, it was that good! Juliana's daughter assisted her this weekend and she was lovely. Excellent waitress and Juliana prepared all the food. Our last morning Juliana even waited on us and was so nice.

The house is located only 5 minutes from Vineyard Haven on a very quiet charming street. We loved strolling back and forth to town. There were two bikes that we were able to use free of charge at our leisure and we used them the entire weekend.

I think the only tip I would suggest for this Inn is to have a small refrigerator available for the guests to share. It would have been great to be able to chill a bottle of wine and/or store leftovers at our conveinance. I am sure if I asked Juliana she would have happily chilled wine for us in her kitchen, but it just would be nice to have an area that guest could access at their conveinence. The keurig coffee maker was available, but unfortunately the last two days mugs were not left out. I honestly think this was just an oversight. Basically to sum it up a small fridge near the coffee maker with mugs, xtra wine glasses and some wine openers would be a nice touch. Clearly this is not a deal breaker for me, just a suggestion.

Thank you Juliana for such a lovely stay. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. It was an absolute pleasure.

Room Tip: All rooms are on the second level. We stayed in room 6, the smallest room in the inn and honestly it...

Thank you for taking the time to write such an in depth review! It was great having you both. The best part of owning a B&B is watching people enjoying themselves and make themselves at home. SO thanks for that. You were at the other end of the hall but we do have a fridge and microwave on the sitting porch. My apologies for not pointing that out to you.
Hope to see you again soon. Lexi says hi!

Martha's Vineyard can be quite busy and noisy. The Doctor's House is less that 5 minutes from the main street with shops and restaurants but you're in a different world. It was peaceful and relaxing. Breakfasts were fabulous with a choice of 5 selections plus fresh fruit and muffins or scones. The are lots of places in the house to chill out with a good book. Their dog Lexie is very well trained and friendly.

My wife and I just spent our honeymoon at The Doctors House B&B on Martha's Vineyard, and I must say that we were delighted with our stay in every way.

Before getting too deeply into details, I should mention that this is not going to be the perfect B&B for everyone. My wife and I are middle-aged and very independent and self-sufficient. When we arrived, Jilana told us that we had the run of the house and were free to enjoy it (well, aside from their private family quarters, naturally), and we felt very much at home doing so. There was no check-in procedure, no reciting of our car tag number, just directions to find our room at the top of the stairs and an invitation to make ourselves at home. Jilana will engage with the guests if the guests so desire... we had a wonderful conversation with her about the history of the B&B and about our respective pets on our last morning there. But she is not the kind of innkeeper to HOVER around the guests. If you need something, she's there. If you don't seek her out, you'll feel like the house is your own personal residence. So if you need a lot of doting and fussing during your stay, this may not be your ideal choice. For us, it was PERFECT... we were able to come and go as we pleased, and enjoy the public rooms at our leisure.

The house is truly lovely. As in all B&Bs in historic houses, our room itself was cozy but spacious enough for our needs. The queen bed was super comfortable, the air conditioning/heating system was controllable to our liking (we only really needed A/C the first evening, the rest of the time open windows were the order of the day... but the heat would be convenient for an off-season stay... hmmmm...), the bathroom was immaculate with newer appointments and sparkling clean, and there was plenty of closet space (plus an iron and ironing board... thank you), and my wife's favorite, super-luxe his-and-hers bathrobes! Also, our room was QUIET, even with windows open, owing to the fact that unlike so many B&Bs on MV, this one is NOT on a main road clogged with pedestrian and vehicle traffic day and night. We heard nothing as we slept, aside from crickets chirping. Nice.

The living room is appointed with soft comfy couches and chairs, the dining room features a gorgeous antique Danish table (Jilana's got a great story about that, too), and upstairs there's a glassed-in sunroom that was a great spot for a late-night game of cards. But really, the feature of the house that we loved most was the veranda. Breakfast was served there every morning, with a serene view of the expansive yard which includes an enormous 200-year-old oak tree. On our last evening, we chose to grab cheese and charcuterie from the Black Sheep in Edgartown and retire to the veranda with a couple of bottles of wine and our cribbage board for our final dinner. It was one of the most delightful evenings we've spent together, highlighted by the arrival at dusk of the flock of wild turkeys (twelve of them!) who saunter in like clockwork to roost in the oak overnight.

My experience of B&Bs is that it's the breakfast "B" that can be lacking. Often if there even is a hot breakfast, everyone is offered the same thing; and if blueberry pancakes (or whatever) are not to your liking, you're out of luck. Jilana is an accomplished chef, and offered everything from bacon & eggs to French toast to a parfait of yogurt and homemade granola to a smoked salmon plate with fresh toasted bagel, local tomatoes and capers (my favorite) and a sublime eggs benedict with ham or salmon (with salmon was my wife's choice three mornings in a row). In addition, each guest gets a plate of cut fresh fruit and choice of homemade muffins and scones (the orange cranberry scone was KILLER), excellent coffee and a variety of teas. All of this was served up by the utterly charming Ben, a perfectly professional young actor/screenwriter, and himself a terrific conversationalist.

So, to sum up... great location (easy stroll to the center of Vineyard Haven), gorgeous house, outstanding food, and a true feeling of being at home. Doesn't get much better than that, IMHO. We will be back!

We stayed there for three nights. Nice property close to Vineyard Haven. You can walk into town and that is the biggest advantage. Grounds are very nice and well kept. Rooms are a bit small. The biggest drawback is the hostess, She is not very nice and does not interact with guests the way you would expect the owner of a B&B too. When we check out, she never even came around to say good bye. The good side is that there is a nice young man who works there, Ben. He was very helpful. I would not stay there again.

The Doctor's House is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. It's very close to "downtown" Vineyard Haven. Jilana is great. She welcomed me when I arrived (along with their friendly dog Lexie). Next time I'm on the Vineyard, I will not hesitate to stay here.
